Plex Server Remote Access Status Incorrect

Server Version#: 1.19.2.2673

Server says:

Not available outside your network

Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.

However, remote users are logged in. I can ping the port from outside and hit it via a cellular connection.

I’ve seen this before but it usually only last a few seconds or will disappear after a page refresh.

No luck this time.

I too have received a notification that my plex server is down. I checked the remote access, and it appears that the system can’t reach my plex server? I am watching livetv just fine locally. Though on my phone, over cell data, I am unable to reach my server? This was working just fine last night. and I have made no changes while I was sleeping…

@hamish_18 that sounds like a different issue, as mine is functioning correctly but the state the UI reports is incorrect. You may want to open another ticket as your issue likely has another cause.

sorry I think we are having the same issue. I didn’t give my phone long enough to get connected. Verizon is slow lately  I am playing a move on it right now, but plexpy still shows my server as down, and I am getting emails stating that every 10 minutes. I continue to see the remote connection show as down as well. I can edit my post if need be.

also, I can see in the plex dashboard my phone watching the movie. so remote access is definitely working, but the plex server thinks remote access is down.

Your Plex Media Server checks in with a server at plex.tv to determine remote access status.

Given the increase in remote streaming due to people staying at home, the servers are sometimes busy and do not respond.

If that happens, Plex Media Server will incorrectly show remote access as unavailable.

One additional way to test is via canyouseeme.org. Put in your port number (ex: 32400) and it will show if your Plex server is reachable from the Internet.

understood, but unless there has been a huge influx over the past 12 hours, I think something else is going on. I don’t usually get emails telling me plex is down. But I do understand that this is in the realm of possibilities. I watched as my remote access screen went to showing accessible for a few minutes. I even got the plex server is back up email. but about 2 minutes later, it went back to showing not accessible, and I received a plex server is down email.

This is not normal. since I see a remote user streaming right now, and I was able to on my phone over cell, I am not too terribly worried about it. But still felt it neccessary to report it, and then found that I wasn’t the only one with the issue.

I personally use uptimerobot.com for monitoring externally.

If a plex employee says it’s because of stress on their servers, cool. Until then, I’ll monitor this ticket.

Nice. Wasn’t aware of that. Will check it out.

A Ninja/employee/etc mentioned it a few days ago in another thread. I can’t find the post or I’d link it here.

FYI, you can see PMS remote access check-in with plex.tv in the log files. Look in Plex Media Server.logPlex Media Server.5.log for entries with PublicAddressManager.

Your logs show activity at 09:30 and 10:30 (the entries at 0930 are the same):

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’ve been working on improving this lately and there a few changes in the next beta release which will hopefully address a lot of this.

For now I would just try using the the “Retry” option and see if that kicks things into action again.

Thanks a lot the retry button fixed it.

excellent. thanks @drzoidberg33  I too am completely fine and understand if this is a busy server. As long as my family doesn’t start texting me that they can’t get to their judge judy’s and general hospitals, I am a happy camper HAHAHAHA.

@FordGuy61 thanks. I will check my logs and just make sure it’s an issue getting a response from plex.tv.

@gorgarp123 Thanks for mentioning uptimerobot.com. Signed up earlier today. Really nice dashboard and detail page. It’s been running for all of 8 hours, but so far so good. Thanks again!
