This is probably a simple yes/no kind of question…
Given my setup, can Plex tap into my iTunes library so that it’s as streamable as my Plex library? I have a recollection that at least at some point in the past, this was not possible… that the Plex server needed to be running on the same computer as iTunes. My PC is my transcoding beast, while I’m otherwise all-in in the iEcosystem via the Mac.
I’m just hoping to hear that something has changed since the last time I checked…
As long as the two of them are connected to the same network (pref via cat6 network cable and Gbit switch/router) and both are turned on - you could easily share the media from one computer to another using SMB (Samba). Plex has no issues reading media from another device on the same network so this should work (though I’m not sure how well formatted the iTunes library is in regards of https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/categories/200028098-Media-Preparation )
Of Course! smh…
That totally worked.
On the mac, Sharing -> add the folder
On the PC, Map a Network Drive -> browse to my shared folder
Plex is currently downloading a _**lot **_of metadata lol
The iTunes library is apparently very well formatted for automatic recognition. There will end up being some extra crap imported (podcasts, voice memos, etc.) but otherwise, seems to work flawlessly.
Thanks,
Josh
