Plex Server Streaming to Android TV / Xbox X - Error Unable to play media

Server Version#: 1.21.3830
Player Version#: 1.25.0.1511-47afccd4

Hello all,

I have setup a Windows 10-based Plex Server on my home PC.
Server contains straight rips (no re-encode) of my discs and are SD / HD / UHD MKVs

I am attempting to remotely stream content from my Server when away from home.

On my server, I have disabled Transcoding.

On Windows 10, the Plex player plays everything in my Library

On my Sony Android TV AND on my Xbox X Series, only SD content plays - any HD or UHD content says Error Unable to play media

Is this a limitation of a Free licence - so getting a Plex Pass would overcome this?

Thanks

UPDATE

I have experimented with streaming from my IOS app (iPhone 12 Pro Max with latest Plex App)
Interestingly it provides more feedback than other clients

Attempting to stream a Blu Ray rip
Could not Direct Play - Not enough bandwidth
9165 kbps is needed - only 3000 kbps available

Attempting to stream a UHD Blu Ray rip
Could not Direct Play - Not enough bandwidth
99036 kbps is needed - only 3000 kbps available

Another Update

Oooooooh. I can see that we have to change settings on both the Server and each Client to override limitations on bandwidth for Remote Play.

UHD content is now streaming fine to my Android TV!

Your issue is that you disabled transcoding. Not all devices support all media especially uncompressed movies. Most Internet providers do not give you full up and download speeds. They may give you a 80 down and 10 up so any high bit rate move needs to be transcoded if playing remotely if your Internet cannot support the upload speed.

If you do not want to transcode, then create optimized versions of the movie in plex for remote streaming that supports your Internet upload speed.

Do not transcode 4K movies but make at most a 1080p optimized video that can be easily transcoded down to what the remote client wants.
