I have exactly the same problem. Except I don’t shutdown or restart my Synology. It’s an 1815+ running DSM 6.2.4-25556, the last few PMS updates have started randomly turning themselves off, I guess it’s crashing. I’m currently running 1.22.2.4282-6000, it’s not done it before. It has send crash reports to plex on, as is server debug logging. I don’t think it’s turned itself off when anyone’s watching as the family haven’t complained, apart from them telling me it’s not working when they want to watch something. The crash log said it uploaded at Apr 08, 2021 17:35:42.395
I’m glad I’m not the only person this is still happening to.
Same symptoms but using Shield TV as server. Randomly goes unresponsive, usually overnight but sometimes during the day. When this happens I can’t access the web ui or anything directly by IP on another PC and the Plex client on the Shield itself even can’t connect. Network access in general on the shield continues as normal for everything but PMS.
I have to kill the server process. Sometimes it comes back up, sometimes it doesn’t and takes a few tries. It’s getting really irritating. I’ve had the server on my shield for something like a year and never had these problems until recently and now I feel like I’m constantly babysitting it to make sure it’s still running for friends and family.
your problem sounds a bit different. In mine the app itself shuts itself down until I go in and manually restart it.
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-04-17_11-05-24.zip (2.0 MB)
here it is again. This time from home. Just added some media files to it, went to access them in the app and it shuts itself down. Had to manually restart it. This also seems to be a repeated issue sometimes when adding new files. It chokes and shuts down
I see in your new log where the PMS logs just stops. It doesn’t indicate any errors. When PMS restarts, it still doesn’t have any errors. It’s as if something forcefully closed anything related to PMS. Typically, if there is a crash, there would be a crash report or the database files would be left open and need to be closed and reloaded on restarting PMS. I don’t see any of that in your logs.
I do see some CURL errors in your log. There is a known issue related to CURL that should be fixed in a future PMS. For now, maybe revert to an older version that wasn’t giving you problems.
One event that often causes it to close is adding or removing media. It seems to choke on that. Not always, but often enough. Sometimes it recovers soon after. Unfortunately, it’s been many updates since, so finding an old version before is difficult
I notice you do have your libraries set to automatically update. I wonder if your NAs is running out of memory trying to track all the folders. Can you temporarily turn off the automatically update library feature and see if that helps your server from stopping.
I have been having random shutdowns with version 1.22.2.4282 on my DS1618+ since the update. I know nothing about software or servers. All I know is since this update I have had several events where I try to access my plex server, and timeout trying to access the server. I log into my NAS, package center, and look at installed apps, and see a “Run” button instead of an “Open” button. I press run and it starts up. I just enabled debug level to create logs, but something in this new Plex version is shutting down the server on my NAS.
Ok, I think I have solved it. For now at least on my Synology. I had noticed that on occasions the memory usage was getting up towards 83%. So I bought another module and doubled the RAM. So far, no more PMS stoppages.
I did that and just experienced a shutdown when I wasn’t even adding or deleting media. This is just unstable now
Have you noticed when Plex crashes if it might be your entire Synology crashing?
Nothing wrong with the synology or any other app but yours. It’s the only one that stops
You are not alone mine has started stopping on its own as well, I started Plex at 1:00pm went out and cam home at 4pm and it had shut down on its own:

Everything else on the Synology NAS is working fine
It’s becoming a regular occurrence now, even after yesterday’s update. This is ridiculous
and AGAIN today. This is SO MUCH FUN!!! Funny how their annoying ad when you open the app works flawlessly, though
Please provide new logs whenever this happens. Hopefully one of them will have info on what’s causing the crash.
I’m experiencing crashes too: Random crashes on DS216+II, DSM 6.2.3, PMS 1.22.3.4392 and earlier
Did anyone notice if after the crash Plex still has running tasks in the Resource manager, using a lot of CPU? It was like that in my case.
Looks like a few of us Synology owners having crashes recently. I hope soon I’ll be able to try an experiment that will help to figure out if the issue on PMS or DSM side (if you have time you can try that too, it was proposed in the thread I linked). It would be nice if anyone else affected could also tell which DSM version they are currently using. I’m on 6.2.3-25426 Update 3.
Also, as I found out, it’s very useful to set up Tautulli notification on when Plex Server is down, this way you’ll know right away when to go get logs and crash dumps.
all other systems and resource use is normal. I am using the latest version of DSM DSM 6.2.4-25556
Can you advise which logs to post, I just downloaded my logs from the app and there are 148 individual logs in the zip file
Since we’re looking for any information, I would say just upload the entire zip file so I can look around.
