I have a fresh Plex-Linux server install. It “HAS” been working (to some degree). We have solid brick walls whcih play havock with Wifi so i decided to configure a spare router as a wired access point. both are transmitting on the same SSID and Password so as to provide a makeshift mesh. Ive added other routers upstairs which are all working well and the whole house is nicely saturated in Wifi. While all the streaming services are loving it Plex seems to be having an aneurysm.
The A/P routers are presumably routing traffic to the master router and using it DHCP server and no firewalls are set on any other than the master router. There are 3 routers plugged in to the Lan ports of the master and the 4th lan is taken up by the ethernet attached to the plex server.
Plex is saying it is not accessible to the outside world despite being directly connected to the master router. I feel this is important but after days looking at this I’m to close to it to think straight anymore…
Where have i gone wrong in this setup, what setting have i missed?
The 3 routers that connect to your main router I understand you plugged them I to the LAN port of the main router but on the remote router did you plug into LAN or WAN?
Your problem description is what is confusing here
Plex is saying it is not accessible to the outside world despite being directly connected to the >master router. I feel this is important but after days looking at this I’m to close to it to think >straight anymore…
You mean the “Remote Access” tab under “Settings” on the PMS server tells you this ?
This is possible. You must make sure port 32400 is “mapped” from the outside world straight to your Plex server. If on a Linux box, make sure no host-based firewall is active or have it adapted (eg. iptables, ipfw,…)
The Plex software will try “UPNP” to your (master)router to “open” some ports automagically but I would keep all the UPNP stuff disabled and configure it manually.
From what you write I assume internally on your LAN all works fine ? Or did mean not a single PC or tablet in the house can use Plex ??
