Plex Server (Windows) - Had to install old version to get it to work

Server Version#: Version 1.19.5.3112

Long time user of Plex, until I started to get loads of ‘network too slow’ errors all of a sudden about 18 months ago. Read loads, but could never get it to work, and eventually gave up and moved to EMBY, which worked flawlessly from day one and never had an issue.

Wanted to stream to Xbox and discovered there is no EMBY App outside of the full fee version. So revisted Plex, and tried for days to install it and get it to work. No matter what the method (Iphone, Roku, Xbox etc etc) I coudl never get a direct conenction to the server. Tried all fireways (router, windows etc) off. Tried forwarding port 32400 absoltuely everywhere I could, nothing worked.

In desperation, I found a site that had old versions of PMS. Picked one from mid / early 2019 and installed. It all installed ok, except the Webapp wouldnt load pages properly and I coudldnt see my Library properly. Tried Plex on IOS phone - isntant playback of movies. Tried Roku, Xbox etc … instant playback of movies. Updated the web app, and I can now see all my library properly. Thought this would kill the server, but it hasnt. Its still working like a charm - no errors anywhere saying “indirect connection to server” etc. PMS works whether the computer is going through PIA VPN or not.

Not sure what it is in the new packages, but something broke Plex in recent packages, and I had to install a very old version to get it to work.

Im not updating anything. Is there a way to ensure that nothign gets updated so it doesnt break my server ? Any thoughts on what it is in the new packages that causes the PMS to be blocked somewhere.

By the way, the only thing that doesnt work (and never has in the years and years Ive had Plex) is the ‘Remote Connection’. Always had a Red Corss there. SOmetimes PMS has a green cross net to ‘Remote Connection’, but 2 seconds after cliking into that section it switches to a cross. But I dont use Remote connection so I dont care.

Thanks
