Plex Service

I know there is an add-on to do this and I use it but updating is a pain with it, psupdate is sketchy at best. I was curious, why is plex not natively a service? Even if you dont have a dedicated machine for plex who wants to run this manually or have to be logged in on dedicated machines for it to be running?

I can’t speak for the developers, but if Plex runs as a service, Windows can no longer reliably lock in hardware acceleration. It may not be the original reason it wasn’t set up as a service, but it’s an important one now.

BTW Linux does essentially run Plex as a service with hardware acceleration, if it’s a viable alternative for you.
