Plex skill not showing up in Alexa's "Skill" list

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

I have just bought an Echo 4 and I went to try and play some music via Plex and Alexa said no Plex to link to. I then went and hunted for the Plex skill, but it does not show up in the skills list. I have used plex before on my Echo Dot 4 which I had bought before the Echo 4 and there was never a problem.
Now, I have noticed one thing and this is since I got the new Echo 4, I live in Portugal (I am English) and now, although the rest of the Alexa App is in English, when I click into the Skill section, everything is in Spanish!
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Phil

Sounds like you registered your new device under a different Amazon account. Probably one based in Portugal, where Plex is not supported so you don’t see the skill. Re-register the device under your old English Amazon account and it should show up.

This is the kind of the mostly useless answers from Plex Employees that amaze me. If you live in Country X it is in your interest to buy Amazon Prime from Country X because you get the free deliveries, free returns, Prime Video, some free e-Books and some Amazon Music. Telling the person the “solution” is to register your device with Country Y because Plex does not support Country X it laughable.

This “solution” will only “help” the user if he is not paying for any Amazon Service at all. Because otherwise the user won’t be able to use the Amazon services he is paying for.

The availability of Alexa is based on your Amazon account, not your location. This is controlled by Amazon, not Plex.

Are you using the Amazon.es site, since that is the closest to Portugal? If so, then you have an Amazon.es account. For Alexa, this means skills (all of them, not just Plex’s) must be in Spanish. Plex does not have a Spanish version of our skill, so you will not see the skill when using your Amazon.es account. Amazon does not allow English versions of the apps to be used.

And here I am in Germany using skills in English, including Plex. I can even choose between American and British English in the Plex skill, and a couple other types of English.

No wonder things do not work properly, not even Plex Employees know about Plex.

Are you signed into an English based Amazon account or a German one? As mentioned, it’s based on your account, not your physical location.

Germany based account of course. Do you seriously think Skills only work in the local language of the country? Every decent skill I’ve tried support English language. Including Plex.

Oops. I forgot, Plex is available in Germany (in German). It’s the only non-English language currently supported. The countries where Plex for Alexa is available (in English) are:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • India
  • UK
  • US

Wrong again. As I’ve been trying to tell you, Plex is available in Germany in German and English.

Right, first of all, I have at least managed to get the Skills on my Alexa in English by creating an account with amazon.co.uk (which is what happened without me knowing when I bought the first Echo 4, the dot one). Now both are hooked up via this “new” account. So that side is ok.

As for the Plex skill… NOPE! It still will not work, in fact I got a message pop up saying due to my location it is not available which I find real odd as before on the Dot it worked. Why all this, excuse my French, “location” BS!!! Doesn’t the first two "W"s in www… stand for “World Wide”!

What device is this? Can you post the error message?

Why all this, excuse my French, “location” BS!!!

We don’t make the rules. :man_shrugging:

You ask what device is this? lololol On any that I am using at the time in both OS’s (IOS and Android and before you ask, both running the latest version of said OS’s).

You don’t make the rules? By the looks of it you don’t make a working version of the software either.

Are you using the Alexa app on a mobile device? I don’t know if that’s different. I thought you were using actual Alexa devices. Do you get the error just trying to open the Plex skill?

Read what I wrote!!!

Just before I get another answers saying it can’t be geolocation…

Where are you physically located? Amazon may have georestrictions for the app. This is not something controlled by Plex.

The first post says clearly he lives in Portugal.
