Plex sound delay after pausing/FF/RW (not on YT, Emby)

Server Version#: 1.32.6.7557
Player Version#:

My set up: 2019 Shield Pro → AVR (Denon S760H) → Speakers

Repro steps:

  1. Play anything on plex
  2. Pause, then Resume. OR FF/RW

Expected
Video and audio play immediately

Actual
Video resumes immediately but there’s no sound for 1-3 seconds, then sound is normal (and in sync)

Client Logs
I played a video, FF, RW, pause/resume. The problem happens in all resume states.

Notes

  • This doesn’t happen with the same content on Emby (default settings).
  • No other app has this behavior (Disney+, YT etc). AVR settings are all the same.
  • Audio codec or channel count doesn’t make a difference for the most part (stereo content works just fine though). Any 5.1 content I’ve tried has this issue (EAC3 5.1, DTS 5.1 etc)
  • AVR settings don’t make a difference.
  • Direct play or transcodes doesn’t make a difference.
  • I believe this is strictly how the Plex client is implementing sound.
  • This also happens during the first 1-3 seconds of playback. Files that have sound from the get-to have no sound for 1-3 seconds.

    • Sweet fades: Off
    • Volume leveling: Off
  • Video > Audio boost: None

Relevant Shield settings

  • Advanced sound settings

    • Match Dolby/PCM audio levels: Off
    • Play comfort noise on HDMI: On (I’ve tried this off too)

Let me know if there’s any other settings I should provide (TV/AVR/Shield).
