Plex Split one MP3 album into two

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: 1.14.0.5470

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi keeps getting split into two albums with the same name, same artwork, etc…
The first album has tracks 1,2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12
The second has tracks 3, 5, 9

All 12 files are in
.\Bon Jovi
.\Slippery When Wet

I’ve editted the metadata on each file to make sure the album names are all the same. I’ve also editted the album name in plex, and it’s the same name.

Why is it making two albums?

For the album to stay “together”, it is also necessary that each and every track has an identical ‘Album Artist’ meta tag.
This is particularly necessary if some tracks have a different ‘Track Artist’ set (for instance if there is a guest artist on that track).

An album “split” can also happen if some of the tracks have a ‘track number’ and/or a ‘disc number’ set in their meta tags and some tracks don’t have these tags.

Don’t forget the Plex Dance after editing metatags or renaming media files.

Just out of curiosity… it then decided that Glen Campbell’s album Rhinestone Cowboy belonged in Guns N’ Roses - Use Your Illusion II.

No common album artist, no common anything… when I finally got that group out, it then decided that it was an unknown album by an unknown artist.

When I got those out… then Plex decided that Janey Frickey’s “I’m single again” belonged on the same GNR album

sorry, second screenshot was accidental copy of the first. and it’s She’s single again. Still not a great candidate for Guns N’ Roses

Edit your music library.
On the ‘Add Folders’ tab, which path is set there?
It should be only \\NASBOX2\Music, without any folder name behind it.

It is.

Ultimately I gave up and deleted the library… I will try re-importing it again tonight.

I was showing folder paths in the library… each of those are in terms of Artis -> Album -> music files

But Plex was taking all sorts of albums and mixing them around… Use Your Illusion vol 2 has about 12 songs on it, but Plex added in Glen Campbell, Jainey Frickey, and at one point Beethoven

I figured something went seriously wrong with the database for that library… none of my TV shows or movie libraries are that messed up.

Having reimported the library… at least User Your Illusion Vol 2 no longer has Glen Campbell and Janie Frickey in it…

But somehow Glen Campbell’s Rhinestone cowboy album is “Unknown”

Which kind of music library did you create? ‘Premium Music’ or ‘last.fm’?

Under
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - last.fm
pull the line ‘Local Media Assets’ into the top most position
repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - Plex Premium Music

Edit your music library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
tick the checkbox ‘Use embedded metatags’
go to the ‘Add Folders’ tab and make sure the path is exactly \\NASBOX2\Music

Then dance one of those albums again.

Premium

followed the instructions… rescanned the library… and I still have

The first Unknown Artist is Glen Campbell’s Rhinestone cowboy album. the next one is another album with the metadata filled in.

Is there a limit to the size of a library where Plex dies off? Is this 5000+ song library too big?

Do you have some folders, where there are just lots of files with no artist/album organisation? Folders with more than ~65 tracks in them?
Or multi-disc albums with more than 4 discs and no subfolder per disc, so that the number of tracks in one folder is again above of ~ 65 ?

No.

I’ve got about 5000+ Mp3’s in the share, but they’re all organized by artist \ album \ disc # (when necessary)

Grasping at straws now
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’ - IPv6 Support <-- DISABLE
Then restart Plex server.

If that changes nothing, we’d need to take a look at log files

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 2 minutes
  6. either refresh one! album or add one new album into your library
  7. wait 10 minutes
  8. fetch log files and attach them here

IPv6 support was already disabled, I tried enabling it, refreshing an album, disabling it, refreshing an album.

No luck, I’m attaching the log here.

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-12-04_17-29-22.zip (3.97 MB)

fwiw, this unknown album starts with Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell and then adds some odd things to it from all over the place

Any luck looking at the logs?

Which purpose has the folder \\NASBOX2\Music\tmp ?
If you have been using this during the Plex Dance, then it made the Plex Dance ineffective.

Another idea:
Can you copy one of these folders over to your server machine and test them adding from this location?
Maybe it has to do with the UNC path.

The server has virtually no storage… and it imported over 80% of the data correctly

no such directory (\nasbox2\music\tmp) exists I don’t know what plex thinks its finding there

additionally I have two PLEX servers running… the other one is the ReadyNAS is exhibiting the same characterstics (it’s the \NASBOX2 the server above is attempting to import.)

It’s mixing in some of the same Olivia Newton-John music, but with different albums.

Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell is still an Unknown Artist - Unknown Album even when scanned by the Plex app on the ReadyNAS where the files reside.

In this case though it stuck 2 songs by Conway Twitty on there instead of Olivia Newton-John
