PLEX still hates GeminiLake GPUs?

I have been unable to activate / use hardware transcoding (for remote use mainly) on Plex. All settings are as advised by Plex and triple checked - yet I constantly get ‘CPU too weak to transcode etc etc’ on almost every kind of file.

Plex Server Version: 1.29.2.6346.7000
DSM Version: 7.2.1-69057

I’m running it on a Synology DS720+ with an Intel Celeron J4125 CPU / GPU, 2TB SSD and 6GB RAM with 1GB UL/DL Wired fibre connection.

I know this was a bug last year for this type of CPU but has this been resolved since then? Driving me mad TBH.

Any help appreciated.

It looks like your Plex version is out of date, the latest is 1.40.2.8312. If you’ve installed Plex from the Package Center built into DSM, Synology doesn’t keep the latest release up there, so it’s always quite far behind. If you download the package manually from Plex.tv and install the current version it will probably solve this issue for you. I’m on a Gemini Lake Synology and hardware transcoding works great for me.

Specifically… your copy of the Plex Media Server app was released in November of 2022… that’s rather ancient for software.

Thanks guys. This was actually installed manually at the time. The release notes for the current version did not mention GPU fixes etc but I’ll definitely try it now.

I thought my version was only one update old lol.
