For most of the things I record via DVR, I do prefer that the commercials are removed. So for the most part I appreciate this new feature.
However, in some cases (like WWE westling), the commercial removing feature actually guts out some of the actual show. This happened with MCEBuddy (which I was using before Plex added the feature).
So I went in and set Monday Night RAW and Smackdown Live to NOT remove the commercials. . .but over the last two weeks I have seen that the commercials are still removed. Yesterday I even deleted the recording I had setup for Smackdown Live and set it up all over again in case there was an issue with the feature and shows that were already set to be recorded.
However, the recording of Smackdown last night still forces the commercials to be cut out (and in turn removes some of the actual show itself).
Yeah, I just looked at mine, global setting is checked, however individual recordings (made before commercial removal feature released) are unchecked, however are still cutting commercials.
Now I’m in the same boat as you. I want to turn off commercial removed on X-Files, however it already shows it’s unchecked. I’m assuming it may have to be turned off globally and then individually checked for each recording.
Just guessing since I’m not using the beta version yet, but I would think if the Global setting is checked then it would apply to all shows regardless of what setting you have on the show.
If you want to control cutting commercials on an individual show basis, then I would expect the Global setting would need to be disabled first, then it would use the individual show setting instead.

You know, once @pbenzschawel reminded me that there was a global setting as well as the individual one, it made me suspect the same thing.
So to test, I disabled the global option and made sure it was set for a show that I was about to record. It did cut out the commercials. So I’m thinking that is how things work (which seems so backwards to me).
I will be able to completely test this theory on monday, but yea, I think you’re right and that is how things are implemented
I have global on and had a football game set to not remove commercials, is started watching maybe 60 minutes into the game. I was skipping through the commercials catching up to live and all the sudden the video just stopped (around recorded halftime). Server wouldn’t start playing again so I jumped on the console and found that the Plex commercial skipper was running against that video and pegging the proc (2nd gen i3, not a surprise).
The process eventually stopped and I could watch the game again but when I tired to resume it threw me back to live. It was the 4th quarter at the point so I just watched live. Not sure if this is the same bug or something compounded…
