Plex stopped working

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

My iMac seized up a few weeks ago. Plex Media server, for which I have a lifetime subscription, was running. I had to do a hard power down to regain control of the machine. Afterward I was unable to get Plex to reload. It no longer showed my external drives nor my TV tuner. I ended up uninstalling it and now cannot get it running at all. I can run plex.tv in a Safari tab but the media server, which I have also reinstalled, never comes up. I have looked through the forums and haven’t seen any fix. Since I am unable to use the Plex I paid I’d like some assistance in getting it running again. I really enjoy it, when it works. My 5k iMac is running Catalina 10.15.3.

All software is up to date on my iMac.

Did you following the Uninstall process that is shown in the following support article exactly.

I just went through the entire process and went to Plex.tv for reattach to my account. It recognizes me but tells me my server MiPlex is currently unavailable. Retrying doesn’t seem to work. I remember being able to specify the external drives to be added but don’t see any ability to do so right now. When I go to the Plex Media Server icon it used to give me the ability to load Plex Media Server, showing me the external mapped drives, but I see no ability to find them now. I see 127.0.0.1 on the browser command line but my machine never reaches it. The Plex window just says MiPlex is currently unavailable and retrying does not establish the connection. Perhaps if I were able to identify and specify the drives I’d have something but I see no way to do that. So it’s still not working.

Ok if using Catalina, System Preferences/ Security & Privacy/Unlock with Admin Password/

If you have an older version of Plex Media Server (even a slightly older version), try installing it after a complete removal of latest flawed version. That was the only way I could restore functionality was to get rid of the update I installed on Feb 21.
