Plex stops working periodically on DS916+ since update 1.20.2.3402

Server Version#: 1.20.2.3402

I cannot update to any later version than 1.20.3252 otherwise the server would stop after a while.
So I’m stuck with this version…
I also didn’t have any crash reports until updating from 1.20.3252 to 1.20.3402 up to 1.21.0.3711…

Is anyone facing the same issue?

Thanks for your help

Hello,

It actually seems that Plex Server stops just after a playback.

I’ve installed the latest version (1.21.0.3177) 13 hours ago, it was running without stopping for about 13 hours until I started a playback.
The server stopped just after I exited from playing a movie.

Here are the requested logs :

Thanks

Thanks for your answer.
I did what you’ve suggested.

Would you like me to install an older version of Plex than the latest in order to see if the log is more talkative?

PS : can you please hide the IP addresses in your message.

The shutdowns seem to be random…
Earlier, it just stopped while being idle…
Monitoring it a few minutes before it stops seems quite difficult…

I don’t see myself using the latest Plex version if I have to restart it everytime it stops…

I don’t blame anyone, I’m just saying it’s annoying having to restart Plex in its latest version while it runs flawlessly with 1.20.3252 …

But ok, I will give a try with the latest version and hope that the crash reports sent will help developers to fix my issue.

Thanks again for your support :relaxed:

I am having a similar issue, but if the server is idle, it doesn’t crash. It does crash during or after playing a video. In my case, the server is running in an intel mini z83ii and the files are stored in a synology.

Same thing goes to me on my ds1819+

And it only started to happen when i updated to the latest version recently 3 days ago.

I’m having the exact same set of problems on a DS1819+, specifically after updating to 1.21.x: the server runs idle just fine for 10-12 hours until someone accesses the Plex from a client app, and then the server immediately crashes.

It’s really annoying because sometimes I need to tell the Synology to start the service a few times before I can start watching anything, and particularly gnarly because it only occurs when I open a Plex client to watch something.

Logs attached with PII redacted, let me know if I need to add anything else.

Is it being accessed by an Android app?

Regardless, please go to Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced.

  1. Disable Crash Reporting for now & save
  2. When it crashes:
    a. Capture the logs of the failure
    b. Get the DMP file (put in a ZIP file of its own)
    c. Attach both ZIP files here.

I will forward to Engineering immediately.

Thanks for your help.
Here are my dmp files (only the following versions generate dmp files on my NAS)

@W_75

Would you please consider updating to the current version 1.21.1.3876 and testing again?

Ok I will update and test again

Thanks to disabling crash reporting I was able to see what the server was doing before the crashes.

3 crashes occured and it seems they did right during/after a shared library update…
The shared library is from the same server and is also shared with other Plex servers that didn’t crash…

Here are the related logs and dmp:

If others work and this is a ‘clone’, something is off. What’s different?

I can’t see that part of the equation.

Actually the library is shared with only one other Plex server which runs on a DS713

I just tried to unshare the library with my Plex and see what happens…

Just as another data point, I haven’t hit the issue yet since updating to 1.21.1.3842, but it’s only been about a day.

Updating to 3876 now, hoping things stick. Will also provide a dump if it happens again.

And yes, in all cases I was connecting from some sort of Android app, including an Android TV client (Nexus Player), Android phone, and an Amazon Fire Stick. I believe it also repro’d on a Roku stick, but I can’t be certain.

Another data point, I saw repros on both remote and local networks.

Finally unsharing the library with Plex didn’t do the trick…
But it seems that unsharing my library with the faulty Plex server does…
The crashes seems to finally occur when the other Plex server is retrieving data from mine…
The faulty Plex server always has the latest updates.

I will leave it running like this to see if this confirms.

Next, I will unfriend then friend again with the faulty account.

It seems like the crashes were caused by a specific Plex server retrieving data from my library…

No crash occured after unsharing my library with the Plex that made my server crash.

So I’m trying to unfriend then friend again with the same Plex and no crash so far.

Let’s see how it goes.

FYI, I haven’t had a chance to grab a dump, but this has still been happening consistently even after the latest update. Will snag one when I can, but this is still completely breaking my usage of Plex (even between episodes of a show, I have to go into Synology’s Package Center and hit “Run” after the process dies).
