Plex streams everything via internet

Today I got blocked from my ISP because of using too much internet…
So I bought another package of data and found out, that whenever I watch something on my local plex server within my local net on my local apple tv within my local net, the movie is streamed via internet from my local… you get the idea.

How can I configure plex to NEVER EVER stream anything via Internet?

Thanks in advance

Disable remote access. Although I’m skeptical. Disable relay as well.

Thanks! Remote Access was already disabled, relay is now. Will try again.

Also disable all online media sources under account settings.

I might guess that you may have been watching content via the plex streaming service rather than on your own plex server, if plex is in fact the source of the traffic.

I clearly watched local content, as it was e.g. old digitized VHS…

But anyways - thank you all for your input!

Then your ISP must be monitoring the WAN port of your on-prem router for traffic (bad ISP) instead of their wide of the link. DNS on your side may be resolving to the WAN IP address and your router is processing the traffic. However, it is not going over the internet and is not costing the ISP anything. Look into DNS rebinding.

I don’t think so. When I looked into the router’s online monitor I saw several mbit/s going in and out. Then I changed three things:

  1. I de-activated every online media source
  2. I inserted my network into “LAN networks”
  3. I disabled relay

After the change I only found 1-2 kbit/s going through my internet connection.

I want to use access on distance only for a certain directory, e.g. only for music but not for my home videos. Is that possible (either free or with subscription)?
