Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices

Here is the official announcement Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices
It details information about the affected devices.

Support for the old (and long since cracked[!]) encryption protocol TLS 1.0 will be removed from the plex.tv cloud servers.
Which means that any device or software trying to contact plex.tv will fail to do so, if it only “speaks” this old, unsecure protocol and not one of the newer protocols.

For a pure “client” device like a TV set, this means it will no longer be able to sign into your plex account.
Which in turn means it won’t be able to communicate with

  1. remote Plex servers in general
  2. your own server, if it requires authentication
  3. depending on the client software, it might not even be able to find the server, resulting in a total loss of Plex functionality
(Unfortunately, I don’t know the Tizen Plex client, so I don’t know if this is case with your device)

There is nothing that can be done about 1)

You can mitigate the effects of 2) a little bit, if you sign out your own server from your plex.tv account.
The downside is of course the loss of all Plex Pass features on your server, as well as the loss of remote access and potentially the inability of other Plex client types to reach your server.

There is also an option to not require authentication from certain IP addresses in the local network https://support.plex.tv/articles/200430283-network/ " List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth"

If 3) is the case, you can only retrofit a “Plug-In Plex client”, like a
Google Chromecast, Roku Express, or Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Or add an Apple TV or nVidia Shield, if you are looking for a higher-end client.
The latter, in its “Pro” variety, will be able to replace and update all “smart” functionality of your TV. So there is no need to replace the TV if you’re still satisfied with the picture quality.
