Not sure if this is a Plex app issue or a TV issue my money is on the plex app loaded on the TV…I have Just taken delivery of a Hisense 43 AE7400FTUK and set up and now finding that running the plex app it will keep pausing when streaming a movie stored on a NAS
the Plex settings are the same as the other TVs on the local network yet its the only TV that is having problems the other 2014 and 2018 Samsung smart TVs have no problem and i can stream to the Hisense via the NAS direct with no problem so it must be connected to the Plex app on the Hisense TV any ideas?
I also have Hisense TV, the pre-installed Plex app is a quite old version and is not supported by Plex, I don’t believe it ever has been.
Get an external device, Roku, AppleTV, Firestick, whichever you prefer. The interface is heaps better as a bonus.
Thanks but this is a current model so surly the Plex app should be a current version…it works but just buffers too much.
And my NAS has the Plex server app built in so cant see why it should have any problem none of my other TVs have this problem.
If it was supported by Plex you’d be right, but it isn’t
Just spoken to Hisense tech support and they say its a fully supported app and maintained/updated by Plex…they are looking into the problem and we shall see.
Smart TVs - aren’t.
Buy Devices - to plug into dumb TVs.
Lesson Learned.
Move on.
Roku Ultra Refurbs at Amazon for $67.
Will plug right into your Hisense - increasing it’s IQ greatly.
Have a look at the version number on the app in your Hisense, it’s at least 3 years old, see the Plex listing of supported TV’s, it is not in the supported or even the no longer supported lists.
Given up now the TV is going back in favor of an LG set which according to the lists is still supported by Plex.
The best thing I ever did with Hisense TV is turn it in to a dumb TV monitor. I disabled the WIFI, the internal speaker (changed to optical soundbar) and set it to HDMI-1. Then I used a mi box which is one of googles best Android TV boxes. I will never go back. Hisense make reasonably good TV hardware, but everything else including their telephone support sucks big time.
Yes it is and the new app released a few days is a solid improvement again.
Caveat, make sure the LG you buy has a alpha 7 or 9 processor. DCA is not support anymore is the only other issue
Just received this e-mail from Plex, which basically announces that Hisense models (among others) will no longer be supported come October. Presumably only the VIDAA OS Plex apps will be discontinued and the Android models will continue working, but I can’t be entirely sure about that.
I contacted Hisense about Plex support like a month ago, but I haven’t heard back from them. I wonder whether Plex servers will flat-out refuse connections from older apps entirely or if Plex will simply no longer keep actively supporting these older apps.
For anyone wondering, I’m using the Hisense U8B model. If the app stops working then I won’t even care, honestly. The Plex app on these TVs is horrible and it never quite works right. Maybe it will give Hisense the push they need to finally do something about it.
On September 30, 2020 we will be ending support for the Plex app on some older smart TVs (some Vizio, LG, and Hisense models). These devices are unable to use modern, secure connections when communicating with our services. You’re receiving this email because we show that you’ve recently used a Plex app that might be affected by this change.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we encourage you to upgrade your Plex experience with one of several updated and affordable devices such as Google Chromecast, Roku Express, or Amazon Fire TV Stick.
Thanks,
The Plex Team
The TV won’t stop working.
It’s got an HDMI port or two, doesn’t it?
A Roku Ultra is about $65 at Amazon.
Doesn’t seem like a giant leap - and you’ll be happier with the increased performance - if not shattered by the ‘New UNO’… if that matters to you.
I wish all my issues were that easy…
Womp womp womp…
Time to setup a dedicated media player, I guess. I don’t really feel like spending $70-$200 on a box that only gets used as a Plex player. Plus all the boxes I’ve looked at have their own drawbacks and aren’t fully featured (except maybe the Nvidia Shield, but that’s way too expensive for what I need it).
I was thinking maybe an embedded Plex player inside a VM on my server (but I don’t think I can output an image directly from the VM to my TV) and using a Pulse-Eight HDMI-CEC USB adapter or the FLIRC USB dongle to control my content? The CEC adapter seems to be the better option of the two, but I don’t really feel like spending ~€40 (with shipping) on it. Tried the RasPi 3, but it suffered from its own problems (RasPi 4 might be a better option). Any ideas are appreciated
I assume Secure connections
is set to “Preferred” on your server?
What happens if you change it to “Disabled”?
If you’re a crafty, masochistic fellow with a VM server and a (crazy) desire to avoid buying a Roku/Shield Pro … you could stand up an nginx
instance as a reverse proxy for Plex. There would be some fun VM Network plumbing involved. Nginx
would give you more options for SSL/TLS management with legacy devices.
I set it to disabled and still nothing. I’m pretty sure the TV only allows secure connections though. Maybe it would work with an older release, but I don’t care enough to find out
Using a reverse proxy is an interesting idea! But ideally I would like to ditch the built-in Plex app altogether. I’ve been trying to find an alternative for a while now, but so far I just haven’t found one I liked enough.
Otto gave a couple other suggestions here - seems like it’s more related to Plex “cloud” TLS settings, but with some local workaround possibilities, depending on the TV.
Cheers for that link! Lots of good information. That explains why the connection is failing. I wrote another email to Hisense about this, but I doubt anyone important is looking at them.
Hisense TVs are cheap for a reason. I bought their latest 2020 flagship and a Shield pro and have never been this happy!
I get the same problem on my 1-year old Hisense 4k TV. Server cannot be found.
Time to abandon my Plex premium after all these years and look at new alternatives.
so glad i bought a new hisense tv at the start of the week
are there any options to upgrade the plex app via or even setup some sort of proxy that supports tls1.0
