Plex supports OGG audio but Plexamp doesn't?

I have some albums that were ripped using OGG Vorbis. These play fine in Plex (MacOS, in Chrome), but PlexAmp just skips over them.

Guess my questions are – why is it that one app supports it but another doesn’t, and, might this be something supported in the future?

Post Plexamp logs, we do support that codec.

I believe this log is from the time when the files would not play. I tried two separate albums, both which had been ripped as OGG Vorbis.
Plexamp.2.log (4.8 MB)

Huh, I see this:

BASS: Error reading first byte in stream

The error is “the channel/file has ended” which seems to indicate some sort of error processing/decoding the file.

Want to pass over a sample?

Plays fine in Plex, but not in PlexAmp.

11. DVA - Tralala.ogg.zip (7.9 MB)

media info in plex.tv says this file has both vorbis (audio) and theora (video) … mpv media player indicates same … this might explain why Plexamp won’t play it?

Huh, good eye, I wonder if that is related. Does Plex play it as a video, or audio?

Confirmed it works if I take out the video stream. Also while converting FFMPEG spewed a ton of errors:

[libvorbis @ 0x7f780c005240] Queue input is backward in time

My suspicion is that something is messed up here in the encoding.

Plex plays it as audio.

I was able to convert it to FLAC using a converter, and that solved the problem. Not sure how that video layer wound up in the original file…

When you say “Plex” which app specifically are you talking about?

plex.tv, in Chrome (Macos).

Yeah, that’s probably transcoding  And if not, totally different player under the hood.

Yup this confirms it for me. If you have a file, doesn’t matter what kind of file it is. Just throw it at Plex and Some version of Plex will get it to play, somehow someway.

What’s that I hear coming from the server…
.?

I think I can I think I can I think I can. :grinning:
