I have a first generation Chromecast plugged into a 1080p Samsung TV. I mostly have 1080p media that I direct play on this device. However at seemingly arbitrary times the playback stops for a second or two, giving a grey screen then resumes, but now transcoding the media.
Example:
1080p (H.264) → 1080P (H264)—Transcode
Why does this happen? Why can PleX play the media for a while in direct play then suddenly change to transcoding? I cannot force it back to direct play by selecting the quality, it just ignores it. The only way is to restart the playback, but after a while it will switch over to transcoding all the same.
I have tried to use a Chromecast Ultra that I have lying around to see if that changes anything, but the behaviour is just the same. The problem does not persist on the CCwGTV I have connected to another device.
Any help or tips would be much appreciated.
