I have an Windows 10 desktop, and have tracked down that while Plex is running, my connection to the internet will stop working. After I shut down Plex, my connection instantly starts working. I have no clue to why this is happening. It has stated about 6 months ago. I have un-installed it and re-installed still does the same thing. I re-installed windows 10 and Plex server from scratch, and it still happens.
It can run fine for an hour or a couple of days, but it will take down my internal network and nothing can go out or come in. I have had a new modem from frontier and still have the same issues.
I am running the latest Plex version and all updates are on the desktop.
- try to disable the DLNA portion of Plex. If that doesn’t help, then
- Try to use a different router.
If you’re stuck with the router from your ISP, you will probably need to cascade a second router inbetween.
But then you will be in a “double-NAT” situation, so you’ll have to create port forwardings in both routers, in order to get the Plex remote access working again.
(There is also the possibility to use an alternative firmware with your existing router hardware. [Tomato, dd-wrt etc]
I know for certain that these are not suffering from the issue.)
Sounds like your router is unable to handle the network traffic. Anything coming from your provider will not be very good. You need a proper router.
I did not have Enable the DLNA server checked. I did have DLNA server timeline reporting checked. I unchecked that and will see what happens.
it can be an hour to a couple days before i have issues. I will monitor it and see what happens.
thank you
It won’t make a difference, I’m afraid, because this is only used when the DLNA server is activated.
I would say it was a router issue, but this is the second one. The one i have now is a business class router.
Maybe you have something like a “DoS detection” in there? I’ve already seen reports of it misfiring and thus taking down the whole gateway at Plex.
Inspect the router’s settings and look for similarly named features and disable them or create exceptions.
