I believe something DNS related to Plex is causing issues with my router, causing the internet to temporarily disconnect. When viewing network traffic with Plex running, I’m seeing constant connections to rebindtest.com and plex.direct connections from many apps. I’m not 100% but I think this is DDossing my router in some way or my router is seeing this as a DNS rebinding attack and the internet gets cut out when its trying to deal with it.
As soon as I kill my plex server .exe my internet disconnects stop. This has been only happening for the last few days. Not sure if something changed in one of the new updates.
Maybe update the DNS in your router to something like 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 if you are using your ISP’s as default. Otherwise, do you use a firewall? Does this happen with no streaming from your PMS?
I’ve not yet been able to find logs to support it, but this is definitely happening to me as well since Thursday evening. I’m running PMS on OSX and after 30 minutes to an hour of streaming to an Apple TV my internet connection drops and the only way to fix it is to restart the computer running PMS. Just killing the PMS app doesn’t seem to be enough. I updated PMS yesterday and I’m still having this issue.
I’m having the same issue. It’s been working fine for a while but somehow in the last few upgrades its been disconnecting my internet. I have an ASUS AC-2600 router.
I’m fortunate it has only happened once for me, I restarted the router and server and has not occurred again.
Cross fingers.
Using a different DNS than your ISP default on your TV is a good idea, done so for more than a couple years. You could also change your DNS on your server, this app will help you pick the best in your area.
Has anyone who’s had this issue made any headway? Mine has been doing this as well and it’s been getting progressively worse. I have a Netgear R7000P router if that helps.
