Plex "thinks" I'm using the "Relay"-function when using Tailscale-VPN

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7516
Hello,

maybe someone can help me with the following problem:

I have an Unraid server running Plex and Tailscale.
Since I can’t otherwise access the server through CGNAT, I’m trying to set up a VPN with Tailscale.

The Plex server was then shared to a friend via Tailscale and is also accessible.
So that he can get access to the Plex server I have the URL according to the template:

https://[VPN-IP of Plex].[ServerID].plex.direct:32400

in Settings → Network → Custom URLs.

Plex is now reachable and it seems to work so far too, except for one problem.
When trying to play a movie now, the movie is automatically converted by Plex (with max. 2Mbit/s). That means here is the same behavior as if I would use the relay option. However, this is deactivated.

Two things are confusing me:

(1) For a short moment it worked, but after that it did not work at all (i.e. Plex was reachable, but only limited, because this bandwidth limitation is enabled).

(2) If I now allow access in Tailscale to the subnet where the Plex server is located, then it works without problems and as expected. However, since the friend has his own Tailscale network, I only want to share the Plex server.

Do any of you have an idea what this could be? Maybe I have to reset something because there is something in the cache.

Thanks already for your help,
Eric

Update:
When I use the link above and access it via web browser, everything also works as expected. Only in the app the file is down-converted (with max. 2Mbit/s).

What is displayed in Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + expanded view?

Is the connection local, remote, or indirect.

If indirect, the connection is via Plex Relay, and something in your network setup is not working correctly.

If remote, check the streaming limits in the Plex app. Most Plex apps default to 2 Mbps for remote streams. Also verify any remote bandwidth limits in Settings → Remote Access + Show Advanced.

Thank you for your reply.

According to the dashboard, it is streaming locally.

That is, the connection itself has no problems or?

In Settings → Remote Access it says No Limit.

UPDATE:

Just tried the same thing with Zero-Tier and it doesn’t seem to have any problems (apart from a rather slow throughput).
Accordingly, the problem should be with Tailscale and the network, or am I wrong?
Maybe it is also a bug in Plex?
