Plex transcode 12 gen intel

Running plex on a server. It has an old core ( 7 series i think ) that cannot transcode a 4k down to something smaller while watching.
I am looking at getting a12gen ( for this and other reasons) that can transcode a 4 k 60 gig file to what it need to do.
Any idea on the cpu

Also trying to find a link for the current 12th gen passcode scores

The 12’s don’t work yet. The compute software from Intel isn’t there yet. Betas are out there. I would wait until Plex fully supports the 12th gen processors. but for a 4k 60 gig file, you want an nvidia video card. Is it going to be transcoding a lot? For me, I transcode my 4k HDR files into a 1080p 8 bit. Well, I don’t transcode, I just re-rip it so it looks right. Same goes for audio.

not alot just some movies, while watching.
sometimes i might watch it on a tv that can only take 60Mb per second ( has a cat6 cable to hub to plex server ( current sony) but it has to transcode the audio because it it not supported, so it buffers. Depends on the file.
Also i might watch a 10gig movie on my phone out and about, so that needs trascoding too. buffers too. Or at a hotel.
I only transcode if it have , most is watched on a current sony (s) but i think it is the audio which transcodes the most , thus buffering it.

Didnt know the issue with the 12th gen. Is there a story on it. Any eat.
I could go 11 gen if needed but if they fix it in a month or so…12th it will be

My j4105 celeron can transcode and tonemap 1-2 4k remuxes. Intel iGPUs are more than capable

While true, the 12th Gen CPU’s aren’t supported yet. If he needs transcoding now, a 9th to 11th gen would do well, or adding an Nvidia 1650 or better would be the way to go. Do not use an Intel 12th Gen CPU if you expect it to work in the next few months.

Out of curiosity, on what are you basing this assertion? There are indeed some issues with the Linux drivers; however, I’m not aware of any similar issues on the Windows side. I’ve not seen any reports of issues with 12th generation integrated GPUs on the forum, in the context of Windows.

You need to bring more information to the table besides “12 Gen CPUs aren’t supported.” Where are you getting this information? We need documentation and not just your word. OP didn’t bring up tone mapping or HDR and you come out and say that Intel 12th Gen CPUs simply aren’t supported.

Sorry if the information is no longer correct. I was going off of threads I was following at Reddit. But if it is working great for the Windows crowd, awesome. Would love to get an i5-12400t for my Ubuntu box, but the software isn’t there yet.

I have a 12600k on WIN11 and I’m seeing 4k (~60Mb/s) → 20Mb/s transcode speeds around 1.0 -1.3 with HDP tone mapping enabled. Are 10th and 11th gen CPU’s able to do this at a higher speed? If so, when do you think 12th gens will have better support?

I would would love to know if that is a normal speed. 4k HDR at ~60Mb/s to 20Mb/s is a very heavy work load. And I find that to be very good performance, as I am using an i5-9400 with a slower igpu.

Yeah, I mean if that’s expected speed then I can stop thinking about it and move on. I’ve seen others report that they can do multiple 4k stream transcodes simultaneously on 12th gen, but nobody seems to talk about bitrate. A 15Mb/s 4k video is a totally different animal than a 70Mb/s 4k BluRay rip.
