Plex transcoding 4k that previously was direct played, why?

Running TrueNAS and currently PMS 1.22.3.4392 (Recent upgrade, may be a piece of the puzzle)

I use Handbrake Preset Roku 4k HEVC to convert raw movies.

Roku’s are my main clients. I have a Roku Ultra and TCL Roku TV that support H265, and did direct play the 4k files just fine.

Roku Ultra is connected to 1080p TV
TCL Roku is 4K

Two files specifically, Predator and The Predator, played on the Roku Ultra fine previously…but now are failing to playback and says “The Server is not powerful enough to play back this file”

While watching the PMS dashboard, I noticed that the files are now transcoding to h264.

I’m not sure why the server / client are negotiating like this now, as it was fine before.

I attached logs to assist.

Small update: TCL 4K Roku TV is direct playing the files ok so far.

I’m not aware that the Roku will downscale 4K (or HDR) to 1080p or (SDR) when connected to a 1080p (SDR) TV. That would be a nice feature.

It definitely direct played a handful of 4k videos in the last couple months. But oh well, I’m currently adding the 1080p versions to the library and 4k’s will be an “other”. Wish I had grabbed a set of logs before each upgrade I’ve done, note for future.
