Hey guys,
I have a question if anyone knows why maybe it could help me, so I have bunch of 4k HDR movies and few HD ones that I stream from my Synology DS920+ to my Nvidia Shield 2017 and my internet speed is around 500MBPS. and usually I never have problem with direct streaming anything to my shield until I decided to download few Anime shows or movies to watch, most of them are 1080P with dual audio and as soon as I play any of these files, my plex server transcodes the movies to a lower quality like 720p and I don’t understand why. I tried forcing plex to direct play the files but it buffers then transcodes the movies again.
If I played the movies on my phone or tablet it works totally fine and direct streams to my devices, only the shield forces the server to transcode the files.
Here is a picture of one of the files info maybe someone can tell me if there is anything in these files that I need to take care of.

Anyone?
The shield doesn’t support H.264 video with 10 bit color depth. (Even though it does support HDR and Dolby Vision with H.265 video)
You will find it very often with anime.
So I have to convert my movies or shows? any kind of programs you guys recommend? and what kind of format I should convert to if possible please.
Try first with disabled subtitles. Whether anything changes in the behaviour.
For the occasional transcode, Handbrake.fr is a good tool.
While you’re at it, change the audio from flac to aac.
