Plex Transcoding Remotely, But Plays Directly On Local Network

Hi all,

I am facing a transcoding issue when accessing my server remotely. I am going to use the movie called Allied (2016) in this example, but all of my other movies are encoded the same way and I am facing the exact same issue. It plays directly from the internal network without transcoding, but remotely it will transcode.

I have checked the Plex remote access and networking settings for any restrictions namely:

• Remote access:
  Internet Upload speed has no limit
  Limit remote stream bitrate is set to Original (No Limit)

• Network:
  Remote streams allowed per user is set to 1

• Quality:
  Video quality is set to maximum in Internet Streaming

I have an 8mbps download and 4mbps upload internet speed.

I’m interesting with a reply here too. Sister has purchased a Hisense TV and plex transcodes videos on LAN but when the video is plugged into the TV via USB it plays no issue.

Issue here is that it unnecessarily transcodes on the server causing buffer issues. Disabling transcoding gives the error “Server CPU is not powerful enough to transcode video”
