Plex TV Guide Showing Incorrect Episode Number

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2029

Notice on several different TV shows that the episode number is incorrect in the Plex TV Guide. One example is Hawaii Five O scheduled to air Friday 11/22/2019 at 8 P.M. EST. The episode is titled “Ka la’au kumu 'ole o Kahilikolo (The trunkless tree of…” which according to thetvdb.com is episode 09.

The TV guide listing on the plex server is showing the episode as 10 as shown in the screen shot.

Episode numbers are correct on most programs, but have several each week are off one. From discussions found on the forum, not sure if this is related to problems with using TVDB agent or some other issue. Under Agents, TVDB is at the top of the list and have deselected Local Media Assets based on suggestions in other postings.

The issue with incorrect episode numbers is if not caught and fixed on the server, the next episode doesn’t record since plex already thinks the episode exists – or so it seems.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I have the same problem. I lost episodes because of this.

Same here until I started noticing what was actually happening. In a TV series I would see episode 1, 2, 3 and 5 recorded thinking 4 was missed. Then episode 5 wouldn’t record. It wasn’t until this week that I noticed that some episode numbers weren’t matching the episode name. Work around has been to change the file name to reflect the correct episode number, then refresh metadata and scan library seems to work. Changing 5 to 4 allows the real episode 5 to be recorded correctly.

Would seem there’s a bug somewhere since the problem has been reported by many users on the forum. Since TVDB shows correct episode numbers wouldn’t think it’s a TVDB issue - hopefully the bug can be fixed.

Same problem here, except the more obvious problem for me is that the metadata is wrong for several shows. I just started a trial with Plex Pass a few days ago to see how the software is running. I had tried using Plex for live TV recording about a year and half ago and the problem with show descriptions was one of the reasons I went to HDHomerun software then. I was hoping things would be better now, but it still seems really buggy on this front. Several of the shows I record off of PBS for my kiddo are wrong. I’m going to go back to HDHomeRun and check again at some point in the future.

Same issue here. My wife watches “General Hospital (ABC)” and the EPG shows episode 182 for tomorrow where it should be 180. See screenhots.

So the question is how to resolve? I can change the filename manually, but that is annoying and not sustainable.

Problem of episodes in DVR being off by one continues. occurs 2-3 times a week with random TV shows.

Today I deleted the DVR devices and started over in order to refresh the guides. Also deleted the plex.providers.epg.onconnect db files as suggested in another forum thread.

When the DVR guide refreshed, show Bull on 1/6/20 was still showing incorrect episode number. (There other TV shows with same problem, but decided to use this episode as example.)

Plex DVR showing episode 12 for this airing when thetvdb.com site shows the episode as 11. Found this in the log where it appears Plex identified a match of E12 for the episode titled “Look back in Anger” - which according to thetvdb.com site (and other sources) is E11.

Dec 27, 2019 16:31:14.696 [0x7f1f937fe700] DEBUG - Subscription: No match in the library for ‘Bull - E12 - Look Back in Anger’, grabbing.

If thetvdb.com site is showing the correct episode number, any theory why the EPG download is pulling the wrong episode number? I do not have ‘Local Media Assets’ selected under Agents as suggested in other forum threads.
