Wondering how people deal with incorrect episode numbering in the EPG causing Plex DVR to not record a show?
I record Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood off PBS. I noticed today there weren’t any afternoon recordings scheduled for my DVR, and looking at the guide see an episode of Daniel Tiger I don’t have in my “recorded tv” library. However, it’s labeled in the guide with the correct episode title but wrong episode number - S04E24 when it should be S04E14.
Wondering how people deal with this? I read one thread where he removed the correct episode temporarily so Plex would record it with the wrong info, then fixing the wrong episode and adding the correct one back in. Seems time consuming.
I had hoped Plex DVR would be set-and-forget but it’s clearly at the mercy of the EPG correctness, and requires substantial oversight. Disappointing.
That’s what I did today. But the worst part is that I compared Daniel Tiger episode lists across IMDb, the TV db, the movie db, Wikipedia, and the upcoming episodes on PBS according to the EPG.
It’s a horror show. Season 1 was fairly consistent but after that it’s a mess.
The problem with the plex dance is the episode information is wrong in the EPG. So if I correct it from E4 to E6 then when the real E6 broadcasts, it won’t be saved because Plex thinks it’s already there. Plus, if I get a 480p version of the wrong episode number, and correct it via plex dance, it won’t be upgraded to 1080p when the HD version is broadcast.
Basically, I have to leave it incorrect until I have the entire season in HD, and then I can manually shuffle episodes around.
It seems the EPG for PBS has the right episode title and description but wrong episode number for most of season 3 and 4.
How do you request Plex ask the EPG provider to fix the EPG? I noticed there was a spreadsheet used last year in the Gracenote-to-Tivo switch, but it doesn’t seem to be open any longer.
@sa2000 - Is there a channel for reporting EPG errors in episode numbering?
Need
Lineup / guide full name
Channel number and channel name
Series name
Airing dates and times and time zone
What the sequencing error was / is
Unfortunately to stop missing episodes or having multiples needs the recording library to be separate from the normal library and recordings would be kept as they are - not modified in any way - thst would reduce the chance of errors leading to lost recordings or duplicate recordings
@sa2000 Unfortunately, pretty much all of season 3 has wrong episode numbers because PBS incorrectly numbers S03E01 and S03E02 as S02E21 and S02E22 respectively, so all the season 3 episode numbers are off by two. Here’s an instance of the wrong episode coming up next week. Ideally, both season 2 episodes and all season 3 episode numbers would be reviewed and fixed.
Lineup / guide full name: Broadcast TV San Fran/Sacramento OTA Broadcast
Channel number and channel name: KQED PBS 9.1 (KQED PBS 9.4 has the same problem)
Series name: Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood
Airing dates and times and time zone: Tue, Aug 18 at 10:30AM PDT
What the sequencing error was / is:
S2·E21 No Red Sweater for Daniel; Teacher Harriet’s New Hairdo is actually S03E01
I’ve given up on Plex/PBS managing this show and am tracking, recording, and adding episodes to my library manually.
Trials of fatherhood that I’ve become an unwilling Daniel Tiger expert…
The first is what Daniel Tiger is called in Canada. I noticed the episode numbers don’t match US numbers but don’t know if they ordered them differently in Canada.
The third is a special episode of DT and that whole long thing is the episode title. I’d expect it to be included in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood possibly with the original airing date as the episode number since it doesn’t have one afaik.
I have looked further into the EPG data to prepare for submission to our provider. I am afraid it is not as simple as just episode numbering issue
The reason for the Won’t You Sing Along With Me?
appearing as its own series
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Won’t You Sing Along With Me?
is that because it is a special episode. Our provider does not make use of the Season 0 for specials
The 2 series
Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood
is a straightforward error and I will refer this to our provider to make sure all the episodes fall under Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood
The episode number is a different matter and it is because the airings are combo airings with two episodes per airing
Our provider has their own sequencing for combos
So first 2 episodes are given number 1. Second 2 episodes are given number 2. Third 2 episodes given number 3 etc…
There is nothing i can do about this - other than request that they split the combos -which they may agree to do or not. The channel is showing these airings as combos
I wouldn’t split the combined episodes. They’re broadcast that way as a single unit even though it’s two episodes so Wikipedia, IMDb and TheTVdb all list them combined Given there’s no commercials between the two parts of each episode, trying to record them split rather than combined just increases the complexity and increases the risk of EPG inaccuracies and recording problems.
The Neighborhood Archive has them as combined episodes. However they use aired order for numbering their episodes so they include specials as episodes, throwing off the later episodes in a season, e.g. season 4 http://www.neighborhoodarchive.com/dtn/episodes/index.html
Wikipedia episode lists also have combined episodes. They didn’t include specials in earlier seasons, but for some reason season 5 has the special listed as episode 1
This would be so much easier if PBS or Fred Rogers Productions would create an official episode list everyone could follow…
Correct. The main issues I’ve seen so far have been combo episodes that are the correct combination of episodes but labeled with the wrong episode number.
Just to support this topic, my Daniel Tiger DVR library is an utter mess as well. I keep all DVR recordings in a separate library. I just went through and removed about 50 duplicates from the past couple years. I also noticed the episode title and metadata don’t match up most of the time. Sounds like the same issue @solstyce9 has.
