This is really getting frustrating, whats worse is the status page shows all green, Reddit r/plex is lighting up with issues being reported.
Can we please have an option to stream our content locally without needing Plex.tv connection. Ive been a user many years but these last few years have been increasingly unstable.
But that’s the problem. I have everything set up for offline use, and it STILL doesn’t work. When I am truely “offline” it seems to work just fine. But right now, the only thing offline is PLEX themselves, which means that nothing works unless I take down my internet connection at home, which is not going to happen.
Right now, on my Roku I have access to my children’s profile only. Says user switching is not available. On my phone I have access to my main profile only, which is good, but not good enough. I don’t have any interest in watching on my phone tonight… When I tried to access through the browser on my PC, I can get into my account (using my pin), but then there is nothing, says I’m not signed in. Can’t “sign in” because Plex is not working.
Now the browser is saying that “Plex is down for maintenance”.
So, tell me again what good is setting the offline settings when it does NOT work when the internet is up, but PLEX is down?
Funny, checked the status page like 5 minutes ago and it said that the authentication and API was having a “Major Outage”. Now it is all clear and green again… Umm, hate to break it to ya, but nothing is working, it’s still not “Operational”…
I was responding to the OP, which asked for a way to stream locally without needing Plex.tv connection. That, to me, says “internet down.” If the problem is something else, then it’s something else. Pardon me for trying to help.
I removed the default route from my Plex server, and now it’s accessible at http://server.ip.add.ress:32400/web and (very, very slowly) in Plex.app. This could also be done in the router or with a firewall. Turning it into a “hard failure” seems to improve local access (but obviously doesn’t help remote access ).
Not trying to knock your help, sorry. I was just venting frustration with the inability to actually use the software for my own local content when there is an outage at Plex, and not with the internet itself. I wasn’t aiming that frustration at you specifically (even thought I quoted your post). It was just a general spewing forth of frustration.
Again, sorry if that came off as directed at you, it wasn’t intentional.
Nah. Their “solution” to make it work offline is to give up all security. Not possible if you have kids in the house and you have libraries you do not want them to access. And having multiple users is actually something you have to pay for. Now the solution to make it “work” offline is to remove the functionality? Only in Plex World that would be even considered.
I’m having the same issue. I can only get their hosted stuff, while I am only interested in my locally hosted. Why is this so difficult to maintain? I’ve never had an app with so many break downs.
