I don’t know if this is intended but if you enter “plex.tv” in your browser you get forwarded to https://watch.plex.tv

I don’t know if this is intended but if you enter “plex.tv” in your browser you get forwarded to https://watch.plex.tv

It is intended. You can access the personal media things by hitting My Media on the top right. (some like downloads are in footer as well on both pages)
I see. Thank you for your help! ![]()
A natural follow-up.
How to get the preferred solution back where we could get access to our local content by clicking one link in one webpage instead of now having to deal with two (where one is totally irrelevant)?
Bookmark this: https://www.plex.tv/your-media
Bookmark https://app.plex.tv which is where the “Open Plex” button took you.
Thank you both for the suggested workarounds. They do not really work out as I choose to hide bookmarks away in the browser due to clutter. The only reasonable solution I found so far is using the local IP of the Plex server directly. This new redirect ‘feature’ of plex.tv is further evidence and yet another push from Plex moving away from local content over to their useless advertised services that most of us do not want to deal with.
Plex would never do that without checking the numbers, they are not stupid!
So I think most users wants this, but yes, die-hard PMS users only would not, but you have been told a valid alternative
Even if you hide bookmarks, in most browsers if you just start typing the start of a url app. it should fill in the rest for things you have it bookmarked and for sites you manually typed in before from browser history.
In some you can drag the URL to the desktop and keep a link there.
I am sure that users who helped to build Plex into what it is today would like to hear more about what you mean by this. Can you elaborate?
Would have been nice if there was an announcement about this change… I went round and round looking for the downloads when the web page did not load as I expected… Eventually found the link in the footer after 20 minutes wasted trying to figure out what the hell was going on…
Wow, what a terrible idea! money Money MONEY!
Huh, I guess I thought it was the default behavior, but I recall now that going to the plain homepage of plex.tv used to take you to https://www.plex.tv/your-media/, which listed downloads. As a (now) media company focusing on getting everyone to watch their free ad-supported content, this makes a bit of sense. The root plex.tv domain should be the site you want all your users to start out on, not one that confusingly tells people to download software. How many times have we here had to explain that the “client” people installed to watch movies on their friend’s server was really the server itself, which is such a waste of drive space.
I mean, I’m not too happy that the server files are relegated to a sub-domain, but at least you always used to have to click app.plex.tv to get to your own media, and that hasn’t changed.
This new https://watch.plex.tv/me is a new client I hadn’t seen before. It’s… okay. I’m not a fan of it, specifically because it does NOT offer integration with your own media servers, even if logged in.
I mean people that doesn’t use the Plex Online streaming services, but only their own Plex Media Server
