The new Plex TV Scanner is constantly having issues with assigning proper Metadata to episodes. Great example is Impractical Jokers and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I end up with TBA attached and even after refreshing metadata it doesn’t change even though on TVDB and other sites they have the proper titles. My files are named appropriately and I’ve never had issues outside of these 2 shows.
Some shows premiere as TBA on the metadata sites. Plex then pulls that info and caches it so no matter how many times you refresh you get the same info. Once the metadata sites update it from TBA AND plex updates it’s metadata, then your server will pick up the new metadata when refreshing. Wandavision, falcon and winter soldier, Super Soul are all shows this happens with for me. Within 2 days, the information is pulled automatically and refreshed and it displays properly.
the problem is that I didn’t put falcon in once it premiered. I put it in a day late on purpose and checked the metadata sites first. Also impractical jokers is doing it as well when its already on the sites correctly.
@robots3humans0 has answered the question above correctly.
It doesn’t matter when you add the item, our cache still needs time to refresh. It will automatically update during the server maintenance window if you have enabled Refresh library metadata periodically in Settings → Scheduled Tasks.
I think you are misunderstanding me. I have it set to refresh periodically. I also didn’t even put the episodes in until all metadata agents had it on them for like 2-3 days with the latest episodes because of prior issues. It’s not that reason that is causing it. I have stuff from Impractical Jokers from like 2 weeks ago with a TBA still.
Let me investigate this one.
Could you tell me which exact episodes or a screenshot? I’m not sure if I’m looking at the correct show.
Season 9 Episode 9 shows TBA still and that is with a server reset and having periodic refresh on.
Is there any way that a metadata force can occur when you know the metadata site has the proper title outside of hoping the periodic catches it?
Also thank you for the reply. If it’s just a have to deal with 2 day thing or so, I can handle that. I just started noticing it happening recently with some of the newer shows vs other ones so couldn’t figure out how to fix it
That episode will likely reflect the updated title tomorrow, it’s updated in our cache but still needs to be processed on the metadata side.
You shouldn’t need to do anything if you have the periodic refresh enabled but you can just run a metadata refresh on the show at any time (this will obviously still rely on our metadata being updated).
Is there a 2 day delay on the metadata always now? Just trying to understand how it works as some new episodes of shows automatically have the proper metadata and others do not. And the ones that do not end up not having it correctly for 2 days. Nothing I do will fix that via refresh metadata, server restart etc.
I’m assuming this is due to the new Plex Scanner vs the old way of pulling via TVDB or otherwise, would that be accurate?
It depends on how far in advance sources like TVDB and TMDB have the data available. Sometimes things like episodes titles will only get added on the day of the airing, and then yes you can expect up to 48 hours for those to reflect the updated values on our side.
If Refresh library metadata periodically is enabled does it refresh the entire plex server (all libraries) each time or is it more smart and only refreshes recently aired content?
If the entire library is refreshed I feel like it would take many hours if not days to complete for larger libraries!
I tried checking here but it only talks about musical libraries (probably out of date): Scheduled Tasks | Plex Support
No, it only refreshes seasons that have episodes in them that have been released in the past week and seasons which have episodes with missing metadata that haven’t been refreshed in the past 30 days.
I’ll ask somebody to update that support article, thanks!
Thanks for all the help drzoid!
