"Plex TV Series" agent is not considering local metadata even though "Prefer local metadata" is checked

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663

“Plex TV Series” agent is not considering local metadata even though “Prefer local metadata” is checked. In general this is not a problem since the agent correctly matches the TV shows, but I have a couple of shows that aren’t being matched, but all the local metadata is set properly and it still won’t match.

How are the files organised into folders?
How are they named?
Which file container format is used? (Plex can only read from mp4/m4v files)

The files are organized under a folder called “~TV SHOWS” with subfolders by show name, further subfolders by season.

Files are named “Show Name - SxxExx - Episode Title.m4v”

Container format is m4v, prepared via iFlicks (and verified via Subler to have the correct metadata labels and data).

This is looking good so far!

Could please you inspect the Plex media info XML of one episode and copy the guid="... XML property into here?
(when using Safari, you may need to use “show page source” in order to actually see the XML)

Oh!!! I’m so glad you told me to do that because when I go down to the episode level, I see it took all the info correctly! Apparently it just does not use the season description or the embedded poster which is why from the Home Screen level it didn’t look like it was using the metadata (which I believe how it used to work with the old agent).

So, just to confirm, is this the way it’s supposed to work then? For local metadata I will need to load the poster and season/series description manually?

I’m afraid so. Embedded metadata can only be read for the “episodes” level.

I recommend you to put the show/season posters as separate jpg files into the folder structure: Local Media Assets - TV Shows | Plex Support

Sounds good—thank you so much for the super-quick help!!
