edit: Changed example series because I added S01E01 for the one that I originally gave as an example.
There are a lot of Finnish shows with 0 episodes in TVDB. None of these can be matched with the new agent. The old TVDB agent works fine. Clearly a bug in the new agent.
Steps to reproduce:
Fix match → Search options → tvdb-424300 → search
Also tried adding this to end of file name - no effect: {tvdb-424300}. Also tried to match with the name of the series “Paska juttu” - does not work either. There just simply is no way to match this series.
Other Finnish series that have at least one episode in TVDB match just fine. Same problem was seen with older version of PMS as well.
Please fix this. This is a huge problem for me and completely prevents me from using the new scanner.
I’m already adding about 95% of new Finnish shows to TVDB. We’re a small country and it seems there aren’t enough people interested in doing this. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to add episode info for every show.
edit: I would be happy to add a release year for each show but that’s not possible in TVDB. You need to add exact date of first episode and that is sometimes impossible to find online.
The old scanner can match it and so should the new one. I think we’ll eventually be forced to use the new agent. I really like Plex but it will become useless for me if this problem is not fixed before that. For now I am once again reverting back to old scanner.
There’s probably hundreds of shows in my library that are missing all episodes in TVDB. Some of them from 60s and 70s so I have no idea on where to even get the first episode release year, let alone the exact date. I don’t want to start adding false information in TVDB. For new shows that I’m adding I’ll probably do that from now on.
Even if you add the episodes to the TVDB there may still be a problem. The TMDB has no listing for that show at all, which means you might have to add it to both
When one source has no info or there’s conflicting info between these two sources you tend to get no match or if you’re lucky a partial match. i.e., it pulls a show poster and description but no episode names or descriptions.
This isn’t just happening for rare Finnish shows. I have several shows right now which aren’t matching correctly for this reason.
Users are now forced to research these shows, make several new accounts on 3rd party sites to manually input data?
Since we didn’t have to do this before, I’m not sure “upgraded metadata agent” is an accurate description.
Oh and I’m sorry to inform you @jaahasjoopajoo, but in order to get Plex to work by reverting your agent can also completely break your entire library. Be prepared to rebuild those libraries from scratch when you’re finally forced to upgrade at some point
The user in this case is PLEX.
PLEX is the one who uses these sources to support a product that they charge money for
PLEX is the one who should be making these submissions so their product functions properly for its customers
I know you guys aren’t employees and I do appreciate the help you provide here but, “Go fix it yourself” shouldn’t be the canned response ANY company makes to their customers
I would look at contributing to one of the data sources to enable data content. Its not surprising that Plex ignores shows without at least 1 episode. To have something on both TVDB and TMDB without episodes is unusual.
If you would’ve read through this thread you would have noticed that I’m already contributing. A LOT! I’m probably the most active contributor in TVDB for series released in my country. But I also have other things to do with my life than try to find out first episode release dates for hundreds of 10-50 year old series while I have zero interest in having that information.
Read through the thread and you’ll understand the problem.
No other metadata scraper has problems matching those shows. Also the old plex scanner is working just fine with series with zero episodes in TVDB. Having everything just work for god knows how many years and then breaking it and not fixing it is actually a bit surprising to me.
Plex likely won’t change the scanner to do what you want. Not what you want to hear but that’s it. Maybe plex will prove we wrong, I’ve certainly been wrong in the past.
My only advice is keep up the good work of contribution and add the stuff which is important to you.
Take control over what you can control and this while not ideal is something you can fix yourself. Good luck.
