Hi everyone,
I was trying to make a specific tv shows library for NCIS just to see if it would work how ever it doesn’t seem to work as intended. Some of the shows are not showing up or are getting mixed in with content from the other ncis shows. I currently have no idea if this is a bug or something else but thought I’d share this weird behaviour. If anyone has a idea of how to fix this let me know
Let’s start by pointing your library only at /shows/, not the folders of individual shows.
As Tom says, you should target the base /Shows/ folder, not the individual folders. Refer to the Plex TV Organization Guide for the naming scheme you should follow.
Basically, Plex will look into your folder you select for a source, and then assume ANY sub folder under that is a TV show. It tries to use the folder name of that sub folder for determining the show, but in your current naming scheme what Plex sees is a ton of folders named “Season 01” Season 02", etc etc. This is bad for finding out which show is what, and Plex gets confused. Often, it will just assume each folder is the same show, and you end up with a ton of “duplicate” S01E01 files, and all for one show.
Why not use Collections to put all those shows together assuming that’s your desired goal?
yep… that would be the “librarian approach” ![]()
1 tv-show library with a collection to group related items / franchises – e.g. NCIS shows. You can then either hide all NCIS shows and only show the collection OR keep all shows listed but seeing them as related items on the shows’ details pages.
