Plex tvOS Beta 1.39 - #enhnaced player (11615) - mkv playback jumpy

Plex tvOS Beta 1.9 with enhanced player. While playing locally playing an mkv.
Server is a QNAP TVS-471 with an i7 and 16 gig RAM . CPU load stays under 5% while streaming locally.
Player is AppleTV4 (NOT 4K) running tvOS 12.1.2 - Wired Ethernet connection

According to Tautulli - playback is a direct play with no transcoding

playback has a very slight pause every 5 or so seconds. The wife and kids don’t really notice it but it is very annoying to me.
Probably an incorrect description but - It appears to be when the player starts to download a new segment of the show as the buffered portion runs out. Seems like it could be a network issue. I have checked it is not.

Without the enhanced player PLEX transcodes the mkv just fine. I know the AppleTV4 does not (or did not) handle mkv natively.

Playback is also still pretty choppy, especially for fast movement, pan shots etc… Without the new player it’s all butter smooth. There are some posts about it already, but didn’t see much improvement yet.

Seeing it too.

Frustratingly this beta sometimes feels like 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Prior to the big shaky playback bug earlier this year. Playback has never fully felt right since.

But, despite the shortcomings, It’s direct play. The subtitle abilities are great and the swipe down menu is better than stock.

But FFS. Fix the screensaver resume playback bug.

I can see the same here. I even have some moments where for like 2-10 seconds it seems that only every 10th Frame or so is shown, so the video is really stuttering. Audio is perfect all the time…

I have the problem too,
Got the feeling that it is more noticeable with 4k playback.
It feels like missing some frames. Network should be not the issue the playback is rock solid with infuse
I hope you guys can fix it.
Is there any way we can help?

luxus,

That is an excellent description. Essentially all is great but every 20 seconds or so 3 or 4 frames are just dropped and skipped. The new Beta 1.40 (11615) is improved but still displays a dropped frames, but not nearly as frequent.

Out of curiosity, have you enabled “Match Frame Rate” in tvOS settings? That should make playback smoother.

Is that still an issue? That should’ve been fixed in the v1.39 release.

Was 3 weeks ago. There’s been an update or two.

Yes March frame rate is enabled.

Yes the screensaver glitch is gone.

It still skips a little every now and then still!

Same for me. Skipping is much better. But still happens, enough to distract me and not worth using the enhanced player. Match frame rate is on.

When it does skip and I remember. I then turn off enhanced player. When another beta is released. I re-enable the player.

Rinse, repeat.

I’m sorry about that :disappointed: I have in my backlog some stuttering/framedropping issues to look into, so I hope I can make some progress with them in upcoming versions of the apps :crossed_fingers:

Please work on +10/-10 playback controls.

Sometimes they work. Regularly they don’t.

@Jammy_B could you be a bit more specific about that? Or maybe record a video when that happens (if you’re able to reproduce the problem easily)?

Thanks!!
