Plex unable to sync to mobile iOS devices

Plex is unable to sync certain items to my mobile iOS devices, always returning “The transcoder encountered an error.”

Hi,

iam running into the same problem.
Syncing of some items to a ipad pro are not working.

@MGoeppl: can you move the topic to “Plex Server” instead of “Plex Players” case iam very sure this is a server releated problem

Iam using a Ubuntu plexserver!
Server Version: 1.20.4.3517

The source files in my case are mp4 with srt subtitles (internal). The File will be played without any issues to the device.
And will transcoded and synced to my iphone.

But on the ipad pro the transcoder will convert to “mkv” and then the transcoder will run into an error:

I think this problem are two problems.

  1. the MDE decided to convert to mkv which is not compatible with ios devices
  2. the transcoder will fail to convert
