Ah well … I had this issue soooo many times before … latest Update that broke mkv playback is PLEX v.1.9.2.4285
You update Plex
Lots of mkv that played fine yesterday (with the previous version) just stop playing
the newest coup is the fancy error-message «shaka 1001 network error» no clue what that’s supposed to mean
It’s so annoying & the fact that it keeps coming up really irritates me … why is this so unstable?!
This time I downloaded the logs. But I don’t want to post them all here. there’s to much personal login-info in-there.
so if anyone’s interested in the logs, please tell me exactly which one you need & i’ll provide them here.
help is appreciated (i don’t want to handbrake every mkv i have into mp4 - specially when exactly this mkv plays fine in plex, if there wasn’t an update breaking mkv-playback)
Plex Web and Internet Explorer 11?
Known issue since 1.8.3-ish. Search the forum - 2-3 other posts, one of which has been responded to, Plex internal devs have been notified.
Most others have found using a newer supported web browser works. (Microsoft stopped supporting IE11 in 2015, now just releasing security updates until 2020).
If you’re having trouble with other playback issues on anything other than IE11, you may want to post more info.
(It’s still possible your issue gets fixed when/if the Ie11 issue gets fixed though)
This is not the problem. I just booted up my plex server for the first time in a while (Due to moving) and found a bunch of my MKVs no longer play. I went through and reinstalled every version of plex since the last 0.9.X build. Between 0.9.X and 1.5.X basically every other version broke MKV playback with the next one kinda fixing it. Going from 1.5.X to anything afterwards leaves significant amounts of my MKVs unplayable with transcoder crashes.

No, it’s NOT about IE or WIndows

Here ya go. My Setup:
Plex Server running on a VM with Mac OS X El Capitan.
It’s been working for years - so the setup is fine.
Every now and the a new PLEX-Update just destroys the MKV-playback capability of many MKV.
And it’s not a mkv-issue either: The exact same mkv played nicely just a minute before the update.

this reflects exactly my own experience as a long-time Plexpasser.
And I really wonder, how it is possible, to recreate the same bug with every other PLEX-update.
Heck, I stayed on 0.9.6x cuz of this issue. Just couldn’t take the roller coaster when sitting down to enjoy Plex, wondering whether mkv or transcoding was going to cooperate or not after each upgrade. Upgrading Plex is like playing Russian Roulette with your media system.
I have a Roku on one TV and it Amazon fire 4K box on three others and all have the transcoder crash error on MKV files. The web client won’t play them either for me

I’ve never seen this. There must be something wrong with your MKV files.

lol nope, check the forums. Tons of users reporting the same issue in the past month or so. MKV and AVI files crashing the transcoder

I don’t need to check the forums. I have 95% MKV files & have never had this problem. Do you think that I have some special version of Plex without problems?
