Plex users unable to download from my server

Player Version#: 4.87.2

Newly deployed Plex Server, and the users that have a plex pass subscription are unable to download from the server. Downloads are enabled for them and all other users on the server. They are unable to download from my server using a variety of devices. We’ve tried all of the normal troubleshooting things; uninstalling/reinstalling the apps, removing/re-adding the users, toggling the download on/off, rebooting the plex server, trying different devices. And I’m out of ideas except for one.

Does the Plex Media Server account have a requirement to also have Plex Pass? I found some documentation online that said: “New Plex accounts (created on or after 2022-08-01) will need a Plex Pass subscription to use Downloads from supported clients. The Plex Pass status of the server is irrelevant.”. Which lends itself to not being a requirement. Is there perhaps some other things I’m not considering?

No, there are no other requirements. Can you PM me the username or email of the person you are sharing with that cannot Download, so I can check if they have a Plex Pass and the Download option enabled for them.

Plex server owner and users both need a plex pass for downloads, plex users with an account created since 2022-08-01 must have a plex pass to use downloads, they will be able to download if the plex server owner has a plex pass and have enabled downloads for said user/s, for plex users with old accounts only the server owner will need a plex pass.
The Plex Pass status of the server is not irrelevant.

In the App settings for Downloads, the third parameter is “Download Format”, by default this is set to “Maximize Compatibility”, but this will trigger unnecessary transcoding in plenty of cases and it might not work at all. Check it is set to “Original”.

Downloads don’t work for me and my friend who has a Plex Pass.

@ellisj83 The users you sent info to me about should eb able to Download. I will need to see the log from the client when they try so I can check why it isn’t working.
