For starters, yes I have Plex Pass and yes I’m the owner/admin of my Plex server. My Plex Server is ran on docker, but it’s all updated to the newest version.
I have several friends/family that download content for offline viewing often. Living in Oklahoma where internet can be ■■■■■■, it’s very helpful for them.
There’s one person who has no option to download files. I have ensured I have enabled their account to be able to download (permissions granted).
Under the menu, for whichever movie, they only have the following options:
Watch Together…
Play next
Add to Queue
Add to >
Sync…
Get Info
Any idea why just this one person doesn’t have the Download File option?
When will new users need to have a Plex Pass to use Downloads?
The exact date has not yet been chosen. The date will be provided once a decision has been made. It will be a date in the future.
If I create a new share with a user that has an old Plex account, will they be able to use Downloads?
Yes if that Plex account existed before the to be determined cut off date. You do not need to already be sharing to that Plex account for them to be grandfathered into the feature.
I am told that no cutoff date has been set, yet.
So the above is apparently not applicable.
@Meller86 have you checked that the user is actually using a plex client which is supporting “downloads”?
The web app doesn’t support it.
(it does only show a “download file” link to the owner of the server, but not to shared users).
Applicable apps are “Plex for Windows/Mac” (not the one in the Microsoft app store) and the “mobile” Plex apps for Android and iOS.
Ok, so I figured it out. Said person had their own local Plex server, and failed to explain that to me. So when I had my friend added to mine, he was showing me him downloading files via the web browser from the server he’s an admin on.
Long story short, he failed to full explain the situation haha.
