Plex using wrong cover art for albums

This behavior has been broken in Plex for quite a while and the current behavior is really annoying.

What happens?

  1. add new album to music library

  2. adjust covers so that one has the tag “front cover” while other images have “other”. Kodi e.g. then understands which image to use as album cover. Plex does not.

  3. Plex, for whatever obscure reason, which needs to be investiaged and fixed, selects seemingly randomly any of the images (often times not the one tagged as front cover) and uses that as album art.

This is super-annoying. Please fix this beahvior / bug. It has been going on for a long time and it makes no sense at all.

I would be very happy if a plex dev could elaborate what’s going on here. It seems this has been discussed in a few other threads and all users dealing with music seem to be highly frustrated by the current behavior so “Houston, we have a problem”.

Brief search turned up (didn’t bother to spend more time searching for all related threads)

I noted the same on PMS 0.9.17 (Synology), some albums covers are not correctly grabbed from ID3 (tagged using mp3Tag). It happens also with some tracks on various artists compilations.

Persisting with PMS Version 1.0.0.2261. Are the devs aware of this bug? Also things got a lot worse with that update: a lot of manually corrected entries seem to have been “reset” to the wrong cover art.

This is highly frustrating and makes using plex music a really bad UX.

Expected: plex should follow the correct default cover art image which is set accordingly in a metadata editing software.

1.2.7.2987 persisting

I am also getting wrong movie/tv show titles in addition to wrong album art. ???

Mac OS X

Having the exact same problem. I have embedded only the front cover image to the music files (FLACs) and in the album folder there’s a Folder.jpg which is the same image that’s embedded. However, Plex will pick some random image from a Scans folder I have in the album folder as well. Why doesn’t it default strictly to Folder.jpg or Front.jpg or embedded image and use whatever is the highest quality and totally ignore all other images? Seems like an easy solution to this.

Well, thats something I wonder as well. Sometimes Plex takes the embedded one. Somethimes it ignores the embedded and uses another one instead… I looks like there is now rule for that process

Absolutely!! Same opinion here!
