You try a couple things, Disable Hardware acceleration or roll back
I had to revert back to an older version to get things to work again without crashing
I hope you have fixed this by now, if not, i experienced the same issue and i had to activate my local administrator account in order to delete the left over plex folders.
As others have stated, the solution is to downgrade your server software. Put simply, 1.18.1.1973 and 1.18.1.1966 are broken.
My personal suggestion is to skip all Plex server upgrades. They consistently create more problems than they solve.
Great idea to roll-back. But I donāt seem to have an Updates folder (which is curious). In my own attempts to fix these issues I did a uninstall and re-install of Plex (via the windows control pannel), which is why (I am guessing) my Updates folder is not there.
Does anyone have the 1.18.0.1944 installer for Windows 10 they could share?
Actually just found this⦠hope itās legit: https://www.filehorse.com/download-plex-media-server/44156/
The PMS version 1.18.0.1944 downloaded from https://www.filehorse.com/download-plex-media-server/44156/ works great! No issues with hardware transcoding so far!
Still the same issue with 1.18.1.2015
Hi Kids,
I have also begun experiencing random daily crashes.
I cannot associate them with an action or event.
Have performed malware scans and checked against the known bad .dll list without result. Also reinstalled and tried previous build.
LOG and DUMP files attached.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you for stating this. I was wondering if it was fixed yet or not when I got the notification for the update
So last night i was so stressed out about this closing and opening thing. I have version 1.18.2.2015
and I changed two settings. 1. Make my CPU hurtā¦before i had it on auto.
2. i unchecked make controller discoverable on L2 network. I have a unifi system.
Now I am not giving advice or even know more than anyone in here but. I am running without problems after those changes 5 movies on the server itself and other computers, remote and local to check and cant get the server to shut off like it was the last few weeks. I will keep checking this weekend. I was ready to downgrade the Plex version but so farā¦fingers crossed.
Thanks Friend.
That works like a charm.
Will probably cling to this build till there is some positive feedback from strangely quiet PLEX Team.![]()

Same problem, so Iāll be delaying updating my second server for now.
Will rollback this evening, thank you
I am going through the logs and dumps for crashes and it appears that the log you included relates to the Desktop Plex Player app and not the Plex Media Server. The desktop app has an internal nano plex media server and that was the log you included
If you could get me a fresh dmp and logs zip, I will have a look. It is very possible that your crashes are those being looked into in these threads

Your problem is being investigated. It manifests itself with a log entry like this before crashing
Nov 22, 2019 05:07:55.748 [15216] ERROR - [FFMPEG] - Error setting child device handle: -16
It is the crash I am working on this with a number of users - see post above yours here Plex Server Version 1.18.1.1966 - #46 by sa2000
The problem came in after 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b
Iām getting the same issue and am rolling back now.
/edit - In fact, Iām getting the same issue on 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b-x86 using the download link posted earlier in this thread. If I enable hardware acceleration in Transcoder and try and play something, it crashes immediately. With it disabled, itās working fine.
This post covers the known crashes and fixes when hardware acceleration is used
