When I play a video though plex app on Nvidia Shield, I can barely hear the sound track.
However, if I cast the same video file from plex on from my Android phone through Nvidia shield, the sound is ok… I tried messing the sound settings on Nvidia to no avail. Is there a bug in the Plex App that is loaded on Nvidia shield?
Most likely it means that the Shield is playing 5.1 audio channels to the TV.
But the TV does only forward two of these to the speakers. (R+L, but the crucial Center channel is missing)
Quick fix: disable “Passthrough” in the preferences of the Plex app on the shield.
Better fix:
Go to the preferences of the Shield.
Device settings - Display and Audio - Advanced Sound Settings - Surround Sound - Select Formats
Either select “manually”, and disable any formats which the TV (or the speaker connected to the TV!)
or
“None: don’t use surround sound”
