Plex VR revisited?

I realize VR has all but been abandoned with Plex, but any chance it could be revisited with current HMDs? One of my main uses for Plex is with a NAS for my 3D library, would love to be able to view it in my WMR Odyssey+ and Quest with the better Plex UI like the app for Gear and GO, rather than DLNA file listing in another app. I thought maybe the Windows app might work in WMR, but it does not install as an option, I assume because it is not UWP. Just a thought

Has it been abandoned?:

Is there a comment from Plex developers on this?
I’m using the app on the GO and have some small but significant feature requests.

I was logging in to make a similar post.

I bought my first WMR headset and during this time since I can’t go to see a movie with my friends I’d have liked to have shared a movie I have.

I don’t understand why they haven’t continued the development of VR. Even if it steam based it would work for me.

I haven’t been able to find anything else similar to the go/rift versions they had done previously. Can’t find anything about them abandoning it either.

Maybe some devs or someone can post here and help us out. There’s a demand for it you can see it in all the previous threads.

Yes it has been abandoned. There was a post in an older forum from someone at Plex saying they were no longer doing any development for VR.

Even a Windows 10 version of the app that is Win32 and available in the Store would work in WMR. They have one for XBox, would seem to be very close to a version for Windows 10 Store. Does not solve Quest though. I tried sideloading the Go version apk, but it kept crashing constantly

I think I may have an idea on bringing back Plex VR… how about instead of developing an entirely new app, we take the TV version of Plex and port it into Oculus TV. I side loaded the android app and it works great! the only problem with side loading Plex is that it does not let you use the TV layout, and it does not let you invite friends over to view together. Both of these features would be great and it would allow for Plex to be used on both Go, Quest, and possibly Rift. Plex doesn’t even have to worry about creating locations for us because they can just leave the default Oculus TV room. As for viewing Plex with friends, oculus TV can help with that.

I would like to see it. I’ve got a lot of family in very remote places and it would mean a lot to some of them to some of them to be able to ship them a headset for drive in theatre experiences together.

Just bought my oculus go and worked flawlessly for the first few tries. Then went to invite friends and sits saying connecting. 2 out of three tries and it doesn’t see my library. I come on to the forum to see if there are issues just to find out its usual plex start something then abandon. Jeez would you at plex get a grip and stick with something or allow users to take over in the programming department so we can get some decent features

I too would really like to see some updates to the VR app, an Oculus Go user myself. Even if it was just a bug fix update that would be nice. I’ve been having trouble for a long time with certain media showing runtime in the tens of thousands of minutes. Media plays fine in the android plex, web, etc… but plex vr gets it wrong.

A real shame. I think there are many of us who bought the Oculus Go (and possibly other headsets) specifically for Plex. I concur with another’s suggestion that if they are going to abandon it and essentially screw over those of us paying customers who rely on it and based decisions on it, they should at least open source the abandoned parts and let the community fill in the void they leave. Please don’t become as unreliable as Google and build up communities, then throw them aside when you get bored with a project.

I tried VR today when my kids wanted to watch YouTube TV and I wanted to see a movie. So we did both and I got out my VR goggles and used my Samsung Note 8.

There are some bugs with it. Like it won’t save the spot in the movie if you leave the movie. You have to start from the beginning if you back out of a movie in the middle of it. There’s no way to fast forward in the movie. The button is there to fast forward but it just goes to the start of the movie again. I had one movie crash on me. When I got back in and tried to play it there was a general error and it wouldn’t play.

Overall I wish these bugs were fixed. It’s still a valid way to watch movies. Also wish the screen could go a little bigger. I sized it as big as it could go but I want it so big that I have to turn my head to see all of it.

Just to be clear… I’m not asking for new features. I’m just asking for the bugs to be fixed so people who do use it can actually use it.

Just use bigscreen, lets you display your monitor, and streams it to go/quests.
