Plex web 4.10.1 - where is "Search ONLY this server" option?

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1906 (Windows)
Player Version#: 4.10.1

from the announcement pages, it seems I should have some options to search only my server,:

  • Added support for searching all pinned sources from Quick Search
  • Added “Search All Sources” page to replace “Search This Server”

but no matter what, a search now shows results from “All Sources.” This includes Podcasts, Web Shows, Episodes, News, etc from Online sources, as well as all of the libraries from other servers shared with me.

I have the home page on Plex web (as well as all of my apps) configured to only show libraries from my server, and everything else is hidden (as close to being disabled as I can make it) With older versions of Plex Web, I could choose to “Search This Server” or “Search All Servers”

I’m probably missing something, but there must be a way to enable/disable the default search page to only search my server, right? I don’t want to see results from “Online Services” or other Plex servers, until I actually choose to see what else there could be related to my search.

looks like they replaced it…
I think they need to rethink that…

I only have music set up right now… and all other items unpinned and when I search, it only finds music right now. However, right under the quick search (After I do a search), I have an option to select “search all sources” and that will find other stuff within news, podcasts. I think this what you are looking for.

I agree. I don’t really want to search other servers or online services. There needs to be a local only!

The search results in the drop box are your local results. It only searches your local server at this point. It’s only if you hit enter or click on “search all sources” then it looks at others.

Little bit off topic because I am asking for iOS… but can this be done somehow on the iOS app? Where I am only searching Pinned items?

So the only way to search a single server is in the popup box and even then you have to be sure to pin all the libraries for that server? There is no way to look through a single server/pinned libraries on the larger screen? Why? I would think the more logical default search would be your pinned libraries and then if you want to search all sources, you manually click that option. Can we get a setting to change how the search functions?

Another annoyance is it searches podcast.

This is making me crazy. I want to type in something, hit ENTER and just see whatever I have in my library. I don’t need any news and podcasts when I am searching for my music or a movie. Please make this more adjustable. Settings like “search on x server only” or whatever.

Or maybe an option to rearrange the search would be a compromise too. Just give me the chance to put the results of my server first, movies, tv shows, music, and then have news, tidal and podcasts pop up.

I don’t think a global search is such a bad thing, but the way it is right now is very annoying for me.

Actually, I think it should show only the results for the current selection.
so if movies is selected it should show the results for movies, with the ability to expand the search to other servers and libraries…

in practice I think the search would be like it is now, but have the selector start with showing the current selected library; ie movie, and then all the other possibilities like tv shows etc… show each possibility that had returned a result with a selector box to select it or unselect it and with check/clear all…

I think that “search for current selection” should be for anything typed into the search bar and then shown in the dropbox. If you hit enter, in my opinion, it makes sense to show all results.

I just find it very annoying to see all those news and podcasts first and scroll down to see what I’m looking for.

The online stuff I have disabled so that’s not a problem for me…

This is incredibly irritating. Not only is it showing things that I intentionally disabled, but it literally shows the library results LAST.

WHY?!?

Search is updated now to show tons of other stuff before my library, how can I edit this - and pick what I want to search by default every time, and what order it should show in?

First it goes WEB SHOWS, then PODCASTS, then TIDAL (WTF???), then FINALLY gets to the library, and even some of the library choices are mind boggling.

I take it because of this thread, there is no way to edit what the search results are showing anymore? Plex team, please advise.

I’m adding to this list to say this new feature is counter-productive. I simply want to see my library, not all the crap that I do not care about such as web shows, news, podcasts, and Tidal… in my search results.

Plex, why did you think it’s helpful to show my library last in the results? This needs to get fixed pronto!

Thanks.

I think they fixed this… I am on 4.16.4 and I think it will only pull back what you have pinned on the left side. I know exactly what you are taking about. Web and podcasts were always coming up first and then you had your music and video stuff at the bottom.

It pulls based on the current pined order

I’m on v4.12.3. How do you update it to 4.16.4?

That’s most likely the embedded web client from your server…
If you open a browser to plex.tv that always uses the latest…

Correct, I am always using that link to be on the very latest.

I am actually using this link: https://app.plex.tv/web/app#
