The Close Player icon is not loaded since a few versions. Not sure in which exact version this started. Iirc this previously showed as an x-icon. Now it is just a blank square.
The filled square has always been a STOP button.
That’s what it does. Stopping playback.
lol thanks for pointing out the obvious. The fact that the player at the bottom vanishes triggered my brain to thing it was some sort of “close” option. But it all falls into place now nicely.
