When trying to create a smart playlist to show unwatched, since we still don’t have unwatched indicators back, plex web incorrectly makes a collection instead. And when you cancel, all create playlist options are gone until you clear the filter. It works on other platforms, I made the smart playlist fine in iOS.
Seems to be working fine for me.
Are you using the hosted or bundled version of Plex Web and in which browser?
I don’t know what those two are. I go through app.plex.tv
It’s not browser dependent, does it on chrome, Firefox and edge in windows, it even does it through safari in iOS.
I can see that by just clicking on the Save As... button, it’ll default to creating a (smart) collection – not a playlist.
Clicking the dropdown next to the Save As... button offers me the option to add the selection to an existing (regular) playlist or to create a smart playlist based on the given filter.
You stated that those options will go away once you cancel the creation of a (smart) collection. I cannot reproduce this.
lol so in the dropdown, where you select what you want to create (smart playlist), you then have to select it again, in a dropdown next to the save-as button. Fire your UI guy.
Do this. Filter by unwatched. Click the plus, smart playlist. Click save as. Close the collection name box. Click the + again…no more smart playlist option. Until you reset the filter.
I don’t get a “collection name” box when selecting the option to create a new smart playlist.

Steps are:
- Select
Advanced Filterand specify filter rules and sort order according to your use case - Click
next to Save As... - Click
Save as Smart Playlist... - Name the smart playlist (see screenshot above) and click
Create
If I select a different option / simply click the Save As... button, none of the options are dropped from the Save As... dropdown for me.
The box you just posted, where you give what you are making a name.
Your steps are incomplete. You don’t get the save as until you click this - where you ALREADY select what you want to create. The save as menu is 100% redundant and wrong. Intuitively clicking save as should simply allow you to name what you have already selected.

And I said click the plus, not save as. The menu here is where it all disappears.
Now I see where you’re coming from…
I can see that this might be throwing you off.
The point where we went different ways is that I directly opted to create an advanced filter from the filter control – not by using the + button to create a smart collection/playlist.
[edit: the option to create a smart playlist/collection goes away from the + control as soon as the advanced filter pane is visible; the moment you close that pane, e.g. using the x button next to the filter, the options are visible again – I can see how this makes sense but I can also see that it can be confusing]
Thanks… I had already seen/understood why I originally missed your point.
Handling could be smoother and if you had already selected Add to > Smart Playlist, it’d be good if that could be considered as the default object when you click Save As... (which doesn’t mean the other options should be removed… just the default).
