PLEX WEB setup splash page being displayed on every login

Hi, I think within the last two updates now when I log into my PLEX web session on my browser, I am prompted for a “PLEX WEB setup - Customize your setup page” which give you options to which media sources to show on the sidebar.

I go through the setup and click “Finish Setup” but the next time I log back in, I am prompted by the same page and everything is checked again where it did not save any of my settings.

This is very annoying behaviour and not normal. Is this a bug and is anyone else experiencing this?

Tell your web browser to retain all cookies and other data from the domain plex.tv
i.e. don’t throw them away when closing the browser

And bookmark this URL app.plex.tv and prefer it over the locally stored web app version.

Hi Otto,

The setting in my browser is set to: Do Not Block Cookies and I cannot find a setting that states retain cookies upon closing browser.

I have tried 2 other browsers on this computer and 2 browsers on another PC. Same result.

When it switches to this splash page , here is the URL that is being displayed:

myqnapcloud.com:32400/web/index.html#!/client-setup?resetCustomization=0

Seems like this is definitely coming from the PLEX server.

Help please…

Hi there,

I have tried your suggestion of using the app.plex.tv URL instead of the locally stored one. It seems to have made a difference and is behaving normally now when I log in.

Not sure what changed but this will get around the original problem.

Thanks,

No, this is not about blocking cookies. It’s about retaining cookies.
All browsers allow you to set a policy, which clears “usage traces” when you close the browser. If this is activated, it will cuase the plex settings to be lost.

Sometimes there is also additional software on your which makes the browsers “forget” their cookies. Think “provacy enhancers” or “cleaning” or “optimization” software. For instance the software “CCleaner” on Windows can also “clean” all web browsers on the system.

Hi,

Thanks Otto for your reply.

I had not changed anything in the settings of my browser that I use which is MS Edge and I do not use and 3rd party SW that runs in the background as any type of cookie cleaner.

As I had mentioned, I tried my local PLEX URL connection on another computer and got the same result so I think that pretty much rules out browser settings.

I am now using the app.plex.tv connection and it does not give me this problem so I am happy to go with that.

Appreciate the help on this…
