I have been using plex for several years, and over the course of the last month or so select videos (including movies I was halfway through) no longer play. On my roku they buffer up to, and stop at 13%. I reencoded some of them with handbrake to be more friendly to transcoding (mp4) and some of those worked but it seems that over time less and less of my videos are palatable, and I get these “Waiting 100ms for more data…” Sometimes changing a playback option suddenly makes them play (i.e. playing in original quality as opposed to downconverting) but now almost none of my videos will play any more. Here is the log file from a failed video play that is representative. Any help would be appreciated.
It looks like something is off with either network or perhaps the server hardware. I think we would need more information about your overall setup. How is it all connected network, is D: an internal or external disk, have you tried to play this movie locally on the server via Plex Web?
i have experienced something similar to this and the workaround is direct play as anything else won’t play large MKV and m2ts files of full blu ray rips won’t play at all on Roku where in the past a re-encode would kick in and allow these large files playable on Roku 3. on my desktop app everything plays no matter the file.
Thanks for the input. To clarify, my server is connected through an ethernet over power wire to the rest of the house. There is one wifi roku and one hardwire roku. Both rokus and local server have the exact same issue. The attached log is me trying to watch a video on the server itself via Plex Web through chrome. The D: drive is local too, its just a backup drive. The network thing is strange as there is no explanation what is not sending data to what when it is all on the server itself. My issue is similar to Playdance in that the first videos that stopped playing were ones over 2 hours long. I know I am kind of rambling in my explanation but there are so many settings, none of which seem to affect the outcome.
If it’s local as well, I would start with going over my hardware and making sure that everything is OK. Check SMART status and integrity check on the hard drives, that all temperatures are within range, make sure that all updates and latests drivers are installed too. If there’s a possibility (space-wise) I’d move the transcoding directory back to C: for testing purpose and vice versa, put a new folder on the D: and create a new test library in Plex that points to D: instead of C:
I updated my chipset and network drivers, replaced my c:\ drive ( I was going to anyway) , completely uninstalled Plex and reinstalled, and have the same result. MKVs that used to play fine simply refuse to play. This leads me to think that there is some transcoder issue. The logs just don’t give enough information to properly diagnose what is going on. So far I have had success when using Handbrake to reencode them to M4V, but that can be a hassle when they used to play just fine. I notice quite a few unresolved threads with the same issue and would be happy to try anything out for experimental purposes.
