Hello folks, is anyone else having constant app crashes / silently closes on the plex windows app? It’s become unusable to me and I have to use the web client almost exclusively because of it.
I am running 3.2.20 which was installed via the windows store, I’m not sure if I am in a wrong version.
It seems to crash whenever anything is playing back, be that music or video. If nothing is playing the app sits perfectly fine in the background. When something is playing and the app is NOT the active window (as it generally happens with audio or music videos in the background) it silently closes. This happens way too often and generally within a few minutes of switching to another window (and leaving the plex app in the background).
Any suggestions?
I doubt if this will help but I have had other problems with the UWP Plex app and I found that clicking the “Reset” button in the Windows App Manager can often fix problems. I doubt it will help you but it’s easy to try.

I have no clue where this “reset” button is. In any case I am confident this is an app specific issue because it is happening on two different computers, my desktop and my laptop. It does not happen on the mac. So it is either a windows specific issue or perhaps some sort of conflict with some other app I might have on both computers since the setup overall is somewhat similar across my desktop and laptop.
Like any Windows app.
- Click the Windows Start button.
- Click the settings icon in the start menu. Looks like a gear.
- Click the Apps tile.
- Search for Plex and click the tile.
- Click “Advanced options”
- Click “Reset” button.
I doubt it will help but it only takes a few seconds to try.
Surprisingly since doing the above I have not had any further crashes… fingers crossed.
Update, watched 3 movies in a row without issues, hoping in and out of full screen while sending emails and doing some work. Switched over to listen to some music and not even after 10 seconds it crashed again. So I strongly feel there is something wrong with the app.
From the few messages I’ve seen here it’s agreed that Plex consider it a redheaded stepchild and give it no love. I’ve switched to using PMP but it doesn’t respond to keyboard media keys since it’s just a wrapper for a web browser control when Windowed.
Most of my problems with the Plex universal app centered around my computer sleeping. When I would come back from lunch, or begin the day, I would execute the reset procedure as a matter of course. Otherwise it would crash, pause, and other things. I believe it’s something to do with the display settings and how they change when Windows sleeps.
