I’m fairly new to Plex and I am using a Synology DS923+ NAS to hold my library. So, my problem is that Plex won’t won’t recognize Prince “The Hits_The B-Sides” Album it has 2 disks which are in my library as: “The Hits_The B-Sides [Disk 1]” and “The Hits_The B-Sides [Disk 2]”. It’s extremely frustrating. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only artist that is not showing up in Plex.
Now to make things more confusing, I have a second plex server (actually my original plex server) in which Prince does show up. The names are listed exactly as above, the only difference is that that library is on my computer (which i’m trying to stop and use the NAS).
Drag the folder with your files into the program window of this app.
Check if the files are tagged with an “Album Artist” tag. (This is not the regular “Artist” tag!)
Do also look for the “disc #” tag and set it, if missing.
Once you’ve done the above, remove the part “[Disc n]” from the album title meta tag. It doesn’t belong in there.
(Side note: the underscore is just a stylization on the album cover. You should use the album title as it is listed on Musicbrainz Prince - MusicBrainz )
Thanks for the help, I followed your steps and now its showing in my library. The only thing i couldn’t do was name is the same as MusicBrainz. My NAS does not accept a “/” as a file/folder name character.
Now I noticed that I have 14 less artists in plex than my library and i will follow your instructions once I find the missing artists to complete my plex library.
If the album name contains illegal characters, omit them completely from file and folder names.
But add them in their original spelling to the embedded meta tags.
